Yoga Classes
Tips For Beginners
It seems like everyone knows someone who is doing yoga today. It is an extremely popular practice that has taken America by storm. For those who are just beginning yoga classes, there are some important things you should know. This article will list a few things you need to know before beginning yoga.
It is important that you know when you are beginning yoga that you will need to start slow and ease your way into practicing the yoga positions. Make sure you choose the easier positions for beginners. The way to do a yoga asana or position is to go to just where you feel the tension, relax and let go of the tension. Do not strain or push yourself to go farther than comfortable in the exercises or meditation.

Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder
By
Richard LouvHave you noticed that a warm, sunny day in early Spring can bring out droves of people? After a long winter there is a strong urge to get outside. We've been cooped up in our homes and offices for months, away from the sun and the outdoors.
This craving for the outdoors and nature is referred to as biophilia (love of living things). Scientists have theorized that humans have a biological need to bond with and be close to other living systems, including: animals, plants, habitats, objects in nature and even the weather.
The term Nature Deficit Disorder was first coined by author Richard Louv in his book, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder. He refers to the biophilia theory and suggests that many of our children are suffering as a result of the disconnect from nature created by our modern lifestyles.

Tap the Power of Your Mind
What if progressing toward your most monumental goals was as simple as acting like you'd already achieved them? Experts say it can be that simple. A single positive statement, repeated throughout the day, taps the power of your subconscious mind and energizes your spirit while propelling you toward your goals.

Affirmations - Do They Really Work?
Two years ago you couldn't get me to do affirmations to save my soul. The irony is; now I do them all the time to save my soul! And guess what? They do work and, when done purposefully - with heart and consistency, they do wonders.
When I was first introduced to the concept of affirmations I found I couldn't get past having to say something that I knew in my heart wasn't true, much less having to repeat it. I felt like I was lying. To me affirmations ranked right up there with platitudes. "Don't worry, be happy." Right. I'll get right on it.

What is Yoga and What Are Its Benefits?
A trend that has become increasingly popular over the last few years is Yoga. But what is Yoga? This article will examine Yoga, the past and present, and the benefits you receive from it.
Yoga was developed in the year 300 by an Indian Hindu named Patanjali and the word itself means union or yoke. The definition of yoga is the harmony of body, mind and spirit. The purpose of Yoga is to strengthen your body, increase your concentration, stretch your muscles, relax, and most importantly, have an experience of higher consciousness. It is so effective that many celebrities and athletes today do it for the improvements to their bodies and mind and have a connection with spirit.
So, how much of Yoga have you seen? If you have ever seen anyone performing yoga you will have noticed that a lot of the moves look almost impossible. The key to completing the complicated moves performed in yoga is to relax. When you relax your flexibility will increase, helping you to complete the positions and improve your flexibility further.

Focus on Being the Gift
When we are judging and criticizing another, or ourselves we are focused on fear thoughts -- our inner terrorists. When we are thinking about what's wonderful about another or ourselves, we are focused on love thoughts. We are only at peace when we are thinking love thoughts.
Seeing and pointing out another's greatness, specialness, or uniqueness is a meaningful gift that we can give others that will last a lifetime. It is something that money can't buy. We don't have to go shopping for it.

Thanksgiving Prayer
Thank you for making me a part of your creation. Thank you for deciding that free will, remembrance and self-awareness is a part of existence, even down to the smallest particle.
Thank you for making more than one of us, so we can love each other. Thank you for making light a rainbow, instead of just one color. Thank you for letting us have loneliness, so we can come together in love. Thank you for letting us have ignorance, so we can become wise. Thank you for letting us have childhood, so that we can become mature.

Thanksgiving
An Occasion of Civilized Dining
The days of dining by plucking fruit from trees and roasting small animals over the fire, eating with fingers, and perhaps fighting with others over the scraps are long gone. Or are they?
More and more we swing our car through the drive-in, grab our food from the window, and proceed to eat with our fingers, so perhaps you need a brush-up on the basics of formal -- shall we say "civilized" dining -- before the great Thanksgiving feast.

Five Ways to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude
Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Ban Breathnach, author of Simple Abundance, speak often of the importance of a Gratitude Journal, in which, at the end of each day, they record five things that they're grateful for.
Regardless of whether you record these items, spend some time each day to focus on the little things in your life that make each day special. Perhaps it's your child's toothless grin. A warm home. Delicious food enjoyed with family.

The Secret Of The Masters: Yours!
It was Aleister Crowley who made a profound observation that I have always remembered from the time I first read it. He pointed out that there is one - and only one thing - in common in the lives of Jesus Christ, the Buddha, Mohammed, Moses and other great spiritual teachers.
Apart from this, their lives and teachings were totally different. So too were the people they preached to and the message they taught. However, there is one unique experience that they all shared in exactly the same way.

Seven Steps to
Making a Difference in an Indifferent World
We live in troubled times where our peace and safety are often in danger. Most feel helpless and unable to affect the unfolding events in our present world. And yet many are uniting their minds, energy and actions in order to create a peaceful and safe world with dignity for all.
Some groups work politically while others spiritually or socially. Some focus on the poor or refuges, others on human rights, some on the politicians themselves who seem to be making the decisions. During this period of our evolution, it is so important that each of us makes his or her personal statement through thoughts words and actions.

Your Cup Runneth Over
For the full experience of this meditation, take a blanket outside and spread it on the ground -- or position your chaise lounge from your patio furniture so that when you lie down you are more or less facing the Full Moon in the sky. You can certainly take pillows to make yourself comfortable ... and a portable CD player and candle for music and company, if you like. (For the really full experience lie naked under the Moon while you do this meditation.)

Yizkor
Four times a year, Jews light a special candle, called a Yahrzeit Candle, in remembrance of dead family members and loved ones. Yahrzeit candles are lit at sunset on the first night of Yom Kippur, the eighth night of Sukkot, the second night of Shavuot, and the final night of Passover. A Yizkor service then is held the following day.

Zen Gardening ... Key Elements
There are two main elements to creating the perfect zen garden. Of which are rocks and sand. The rocks represent mountains and grounding, while the sand helps to represent flowing water. However, this sand shouldn't be just any ordinary beach or garden variety sand. Instead you should purchase enough crushed granite sand to fill your space. Whether it be outside or in. Of which can be found in three different shades white, gray, or beige.
You should try to avoid using light tinted granite sand in sunny areas, as it will produce glare and cut back on the zen-like feeling you wish to achieve. Instead use these lighter colors in shady areas or within your office or other indoor gardens. While you don't need a container for an out-door zen garden, you can find many different platforms for an office-sized zen garden. Whether it be online at websites such as this one, or at a local Feng Shui shop.

Magic, Change and Transformation
Using Ritual to Celebrate a New Story
In many traditional African languages the word for "change" is the same as the word for "magic." It's no wonder. For true change to occur, there must be a transformation--a movement from an old form to a new form, from old thinking and patterns of behavior to new ones. And transformation is always magical.
The ancient Celts also recognized this relationship between magic and change. In Druidic times the word for "oak" was "dur," another word for "threshold," and from which derives our word for "door."

Setting Up A Meditation Room
When designing the perfect meditation room for your own personal use, one must keep in mind that the overall theme will be that of peace and serenity. These two words, though they have the same literal definition, have a decidedly different meaning for everyone. The perfect meditation room for one individual will likely seem slightly flawed to another.

Insights on Abundance
The Reason Why Everything You Want is Inevitable
I once had a great phone conversation with a dear friend of mine. She'd had a frantic day awaiting news on something very important in her life. She got through it with grace and poise, despite having some chaotic moments in the day. That got us got rolling on one of our "how to find a better feeling thought-place from where we are" chats. Essentially we were practicing what Abraham-Hicks teaches in how best to cooperate with the Law of Attraction coordinating everything we want for us.

A Tool for the Spirit
The word "journal" may mean 100 different things to 100 different people. For a psychologist, it denotes a tool for a patient's self-analysis. For the writer, it may be a notebook of ideas and ramblings. For most of us, the word denotes a day-to-day diary, a log of action and reaction. For me, a journal is a notebook of ideas and solutions that I have discovered using my conscious and subconscious mind.

Why Failure Is Good for You
Everything we do in life has either a right way of doing it and a wrong way of doing it. When we do it the right way we meet with success. Needless to say that when we do it the wrong way we are unsuccessful. Understanding this is important because it puts failure in its proper perspective and removes the fear around it.

Loosen Up Your Mind With Gratitude
The thoughts that we have over and over form cow paths in our brains. Each repeated thought makes the path more defined and easier. We think about not enough money frequently and the not-enough-money path becomes the easiest one to follow -- our thoughts just follow the same old cow path. Same with thoughts of sickness and irritability and judgment and all breeds and brands of scarcity.

Spiritual Awakening ... Now What?
A spiritual awakening is a tremendous gift that leaves us exhilarated, inspired, and full of new awareness and perspective. While nothing in our lives may have changed, we have undergone a profound shift and are forever transformed.
So now what? It is only natural to want to manifest our transformation into our physical existence. We want to share our new consciousness with the world. Unfortunately, the world may not be ready for our revelations! We may feel a strange, sudden dissonance with our external circumstances. Almost overnight, we may feel out of place in our lives.

Spiritual Practice vs. Spiritual Growth
Is your spiritual growth creating the results you want?
I'm not talking about enlightenment. I'm talking about growth in other life areas. We are, after all, whole beings. Expansion in one area of our lives must be reflected in all other life areas.
It's not unreasonable to expect spiritual growth to create a greater level of fulfillment, more financial abundance, more satisfaction within relationships, and a greater sense of health and well-being. I'll go even further than that. If the rest of our lives are not showing expansion, then we're not really growing spiritually.

Three Techniques for Creating a Quiet Mind
Recommended Book from Amazon

Genuine Happiness: Meditation as the Path to Fulfillment
By
B. Alan Wallace
Perhaps you are trying to make progress in your meditation practice. Or maybe you would just like those nagging little voices in your head to be quiet and let you get a good night's sleep. Achieving a quiet mind helps improve concentration, decreases stress, and allows us to create a sense of inner peace.
Focus your mind on any one thing, and it swiftly gets bored and moves on. By focusing your mind on a particular stream of thought for a brief time, you will find that it moves on rather quickly. This technique is far more effective than trying to distract ourselves or our minds from bothersome thoughts!

A Shadow of Sunlight
Seeing Beyond Duality
One of the biggest difficulties women spiritual explorers face is living with duality. Duality is all-pervasive; it is present in everything around you.
Let's take a moment to chat about what this realm of duality is. According to Dictionary.com's WordNet, "duality is a division into two opposed groups." So, duality is about dichotomy, doubleness, and polarity. Essentially duality is a division of unity. In spiritual terms, duality refers to having two separate areas in your life.

Easy, Fun Ways to Feel Prosperous
When the Economy Screams 'Poverty!'
I would start this list with, "Stop watching the news!" but these days that is just about impossible. Plant Spiritual Ideas Deep in Your Heart
The fundamental aim of spiritual study is to get facts and principles into the Heart's fertile ground. Ideas must get through habitual and familiar filters; otherwise, the information is diverted from having its full power. It's not how much you read or hear that counts, but how much you take in and make your own. How can you receive knowledge deep in your core so the principles work for you in far higher ways? Here are eight proven methods that work wonders.

Journal Writing
3 Steps to Deepen Your Practice
Almost any kind of writing, can be considered spiritual if, through it, spiritual issues are raised. It is in this way that regular journal writing can, like yoga, prayer, or meditation, enhance your spiritual growth. Following the three steps outlined in this article will help you to dig deeper into your subconscious, become more aware of how emotions affect you physically, and expand your level of self-knowledge.
Begin by writing for 10 minutes without stopping. This is a common journaling technique which has many names; I like to call it "Writing the Stream." By that, I mean you are writing whatever comes into your mind, however trivial, however significant. If you are using pen or pencil and paper, do not let your pen lift from the page. Keep writing. If you are using a computer, do not let your fingers stop moving on the keyboard. Write, write, write.

The Sacred Heart of the World: Restoring Mystical Devotion to Our Spiritual Life
By
David Richo
We all need space, we all need time to ourselves. Indeed, one little corner, a fraction of time that you allow yourself can do wonders to your being, to get in touch with your inner self and give expression to your faith. A space that allows you to reflect on your life, on your day, on what tomorrow may bring. A small place where you can shed a tear, or breathe a sigh of relief, quieten a troubled mind or savor a few victories.
It is a place to reflect and contemplate on what is important to you, to allow you to connect with your inner self, without interference, and in solitude. It could be as simple as a table top, a corner of the bedroom, a place just for you to enjoy few precious moments alone.
No, it does not require a whole room, or many hours. Is there a small table top, a spot on the dresser, an isolated corner, an idle spot that collects clutter and dust? If you are on the road a lot, would you not want to carry something to evoke that feeling of connectedness?
