Conqurering Procrastination

Always Do the Hardest Thing First
When you procrastinate, you lose. You lose time, energy, self-esteem, goodwill, trust, and timely solutions. Because my mom held firm, I learned that it was best to go ahead and get it over with. Of course you do that a few times and the relief you get will be its own motivation. Instead of that "little" nagging feeling that saps your energy more than you know, you're free to fly!
If someone keeps coming along behind you (or if you're doing this for your child, or report, or partner), the lesson will not be learned. You'll be reinforcing the whining and procrastinating.

Getting Unstuck From Procrastination
Sherry was behind on many important things in her life. She had unpaid traffic tickets, the insurance on her car had lapsed, she had a stack of unpaid bills, and her apartment was a mess. Sherry was not happy with this situation, yet seemed unable to do anything about it. Even when she set aside the time to get these things done, something always got in the way.

Procrastination Busters
1. Take time to plan -- at the end of each day, plan for the next.
Write a to-do list that not only includes the things that need to be done (deadline-oriented items) but also long-term projects that propel your strategic plan.

I'll Do It Later
Let's talk about the P word. Procrastination. If this is you, this pervasive, habit effects every aspect of your life. As a procrastinator you typically under perform, limiting success and the life you want to live. It dampens your ability to take action, creates missed opportunities, and is the single pattern of behavior I see in most entrepreneurs that if corrected would free up log jams of energy and potential. If you're a procrastinator you know in your bones that this is true, yet, it seems like an impossible habit to break.

Getting Things Done
Do you ever wonder how much time you spend thinking about things that need your attention? Then, shrug your shoulders and think some more about it later. In the meantime, nothing gets done. Sometimes the "things" that are put off will only take a few minutes to do; then it's out of the way.
Think of the supper dishes -- if everyone makes an effort to clear the table and get at the dishes, this will only take a few minutes. Think how pleasant it will be in the morning to face a clean and tidy kitchen. What a good way to start your day. You do not have to sort through a pile of dirty dishes for a cup, a plate or a teaspoon or whatever else.
