Understanding Yourself

Examples of Embodied Spirit
When working with a client who is a serious body builder that regularly injured himself during his training I said to him "As we sit here now facing each other... Take a couple of deep breaths.... And let your body move... as it lightly feels some of its injuries...
As you move, let your body recall exactly how it has been injured at various times in the past.... And then at some point, freeze your body... Sit still... Feel your injuries.. And tell us what your body has learned from all of the injuries it has received."
After taking a few minutes to breathe and move his body the client froze and spoke these words, "I have come to understand that you don't really know what I am capable of and what is way beyond my means, and you don't even seem to really care. I feel like you are quite happy to punish me if it means that you might look better in front of others."

How to Inventory Your Personal Assets
Have you ever noticed how, at this time of year, there are lists and lists circulating? You can find a list of the 20 best films, the 10 worst dressed people, the 50 most interesting books. In addition to spending some of your spare time reading through these lists, how about taking some personal time to create your own list ... of your 10 most important assets?
It may seem unusual for you, a member of the Sandwich Generation, to concentrate on yourself instead of on the needs of the family around you, but allow yourself to focus on and embrace your own development at this pivotal time.
Creating your asset inventory will give you a leg up on beginning the new year from a position of power, but how do you begin? To help you, here's a short list to help you focus on your assets - not the financial ones but the personal strengths you own. Use this process to discover some of your hidden passions. Reflect on your answers or discuss them with a trusted friend as you create an expanded sense of yourself.

The Secret Of The Masters: Yours!
It was Aleister Crowley who made a profound observation that I have always remembered from the time I first read it. He pointed out that there is one - and only one thing - in common in the lives of Jesus Christ, the Buddha, Mohammed, Moses and other great spiritual teachers.
Apart from this, their lives and teachings were totally different. So too were the people they preached to and the message they taught. However, there is one unique experience that they all shared in exactly the same way.

What You Judge Won't Budge

Do I Have To Give Up ME to be Loved by GOD?
By
Margaret Paul and Neale Donald Walsch
Sheila was stuck. Even though she was trying to hard to change some things in her behavior -- especially her anger and her clutter, she found herself doing these things over and over. Then she would get upset with herself, telling herself she was stupid and incompetent.
How often do you tell yourself that you are wrong, bad, inadequate, unworthy, a jerk, stupid, and so on? I've found, in the many years I've been counseling, that most people are frequently inwardly judgmental.

Possibilities to Consider When You're Feeling Down
Seems as though it's easy to get down these days. While the reasons are legion, the story is pretty much the same: try as you may, being up, on top, all the time can be a chore. When that happens -- and for most of us, it does -- here are some things you may want to consider.

Secrets For Sensitive People
to Find Relationships That Work
Loneliness gets to some more than others. But why it hangs on isn't always apparent when read by traditional medical eyes. In my medical practice and workshops I've been struck by how many sensitive, empathic people who I call "emotional empaths" come to me, lonely, wanting a romantic partner, yet remaining single for years. Or else they're in relationships but feel constantly fatigued and overwhelmed.
The reason isn't simply that "there aren't enough emotionally available people 'out there,'" nor is their burnout "neurotic." Personally and professionally, I've discovered that something more is going on.

A Tool for the Spirit
The word "journal" may mean 100 different things to 100 different people. For a psychologist, it denotes a tool for a patient's self-analysis. For the writer, it may be a notebook of ideas and ramblings. For most of us, the word denotes a day-to-day diary, a log of action and reaction. For me, a journal is a notebook of ideas and solutions that I have discovered using my conscious and subconscious mind.

What's It Like Being a Spiritual Person?
"What's it like being a spiritual person?" Joe persisted.
Pulling in more wind than the sailboat could balance, I purposely tipped over the catamaran to avoid the question. I was determined to dampen my friend's insistence that I was somehow different from other people. Yet despite my dodging maneuvers, I sailed smack into my destiny that afternoon.

Discovering What You Want For Your Life
I often recommend that life planning be based upon an individual's personal vision and purpose. If you are going to handcraft a life of choice, you'll need to know what you want so that you can make the choices that take you there. The trouble is that many (most?) of you cannot name what it is you want.
If you don't make choices for your life, others will. Often, choices are made by circumstances, weak foundation, past, parents. Choosing what you want in life and out of life is a new skill for many people. It may take some practice. At some point you realize that you are able to, and must, make choices for your life.
