How To Get Things Done In 6 Easy Steps Part 1 by Marian Holton-Manuel

You've watched and admired people who always seem to get things done. They have a "million" tasks on their "to do" list, yet seem to accomplish every task cheerfully and energetically on a daily basis. They come to meetings on time, and appear well-organized. And yet, you struggle just to complete one task.
Sometimes you find yourself wondering - "What skills do they have that I am lacking?" After all, your "to do" list grows longer each day; and you're lucky to complete one task completely, let alone all of the tasks on your list. How can you become like them?
In my years of observation and participation as a well-organized person who completes most tasks on time if not early, I have adopted 6 steps to getting things accomplished. The purpose of this article is to share these steps with you so that you can decide if you want to be like "them".
Step 1: Make a commitment to perform a given task and write it down.
Organized people make a commitment to complete each task or project that they set out to do. They may write it down as a goal and file it, or they may put it on their daily "to do" list. Whenever I have a project or task to complete, I write it as a goal, and file it in my "Goals" folder; then I include it as an item on my daily or weekly "to do" list.
If I find that I need motivation to complete a task, I write an affirmation and repeat it one-to-three times a day. At the end of my affirmations, I visualize myself completing the task.
Step 2: Set a date for when you want to complete the task.
Setting a date for completing a project or task makes the task seem less overwhelming. It puts a positive spin on getting yourself organized enough to complete the task. When I set a date to complete a project, I find that I have more energy and drive. And, before I know it, the task is done. I can then move on to the next project.
Your end date does not have to be final. After you start a project, you may find that it is going to take more time. Just revise your end date, and continue on.
Step 3: Allocate a specific amount of time to work on a task or project.
It is much easier to spend a smaller amount of time more often on a task than to try to get it all done at once. You can still devote time to other activities.
