Want abundance? Watch your language!
by Cathy GoodwinQ. I have an opportunity to apply for a job that will feed my bank account but not my soul. I'm tempted to bite the bullet and apply. Am I selling out?
When you have a chance to take a job that will give you the means to move forward, whether through money or skill development, you are not biting the bullet or selling out. You can find ways to use this job as a creative channel to move to your ultimate destination. You may learn new skills to help you start your own business -- and if you live frugally, you can save up for your dream.
"Bite the bullet" suggests scarcity. "Seize this opportunity" suggests abundance.
Another example:
"I can't afford a brand new Toyota Avalon."
Doesn't that sentence feel powerless?
For more power:
"A brand new Toyota Avalon ranks high on my Wish List. Someday you'll see me driving one!"
"A brand new Avalon is low on my list of priorities. I have other ways I'd rather spend my money."
"A brand new Avalon would be nice -- but not thousands of dollars nicer than my four-year-old Corolla."
Now you try:
"I really hate my job but I'm trapped," my neighbor Mimi said recently. "I like my house and my nice vacations and getting my nails done every week."
Stop! What's wrong with this picture?
My revision (yours may be even better):
"My job allows me to have everything I value: vacations to Bermuda, perfect nails and a house where I feel safe and happy."
Doesn't that feel wonderful?
Once you become sensitive to scarcity language, you'll cringe when someone uses the "s" words. And you'll begin to watch your language - for abundance.
