What was in the cards on September 11, 2001?

On September 11, 2001 we were sending out a free version of our "What's in the Cards?" Ezines in three separate documents. One for Life ... dealing with the overall theme of the day ahead and the immediate future. One for Love and the theme of upcoming human relationships. And one for Money ... and material, physical, health, and economic issues.

I remember being troubled by the appearance of these three cards at the time I drew them ... and so concerned about the disturbing atmosphere they carried that I almost reshuffled the deck to try again and see if something more "cheerful" came up. (I used to get complaints from people subscribed to the free ezines that they didn't want anything unhappy or "negative." That's one reason we stopped doing them. Gripes from people about free stuff wasn't something I wanted to deal with, frankly.)

But after a moment's thought I decided that redrawing cards wasn't being honest. Besides I wasn't keen on caving in to people trying to dictate my content when they were getting it for free in the first place. So, I interpreted the cards as they appeared ... and mailed out the documents at 4:28 AM Mountain Time ... September 11, 2001. Two and a quarter hours before the attack on the World Trade Center commenced.

I, too, was so stunned by the news stories that dominated the television airwaves throughout that terrible day, that I didn't even THINK about the message in the cards again ... until that evening when subscribers began writing me about the stark, eerie metaphors contained in the cards we sent out that day. I looked again ... and the image of the Tower Reversed in particular was like a punch in the stomach in light of the day's events. There perhaps could be no more appropriate card to define that day.

I have seen Tarot cards describe many things with stunning accuracy through the years. This trio, however, took even my breath away. A year later ... it still does.
