This is a reading on your relationships -- describing the major theme of your association with other people right now. This includes partners, friends, parents, children, other family members, and all others who are contained in the relationships that have your attention now.

Your circumstances involve conventional behavior, fulfilling your assigned role, playing by the rules, conforming to social and group expectations, seeking approval, and "doing as you're told." There is no provision for experimentation, change, or innovation. This energy supports, "belonging," maintaining the status quo, and applying traditional routines to deal with issues and problems.

Also, you feel overwhelmed, overextended, and stressed out. You may not be coping well physically or financially with the challenges you face. You don't have the assets or resources you need to work through this comfortably or successfully. You may be short on time, energy, stamina, strength, and money.

You have too much going on and are not able to stretch the materials and means you have on hand to cover all the necessary bases. You are spread too thin ... and even careful budgeting may not compensate for what is lacking. The need for constant adjustment weighs heavily on you. You may not see a good way to correct or compensate for what is happening here.

You are in a situation that involves the depletion of physical and financial assets. Something did not pay off the way you expected it to ... or it cost you a lot more than you realized -- or hoped. It's possible you made a major purchase (although it's also possible what you "bought" was the sad wisdom of experience.) Or you may have "invested a lot of yourself" into something -- that hasn't yet yielded the dividend you're looking for.

At the moment, indications are it either won't give back what you intend, or the investment will take more time to mature than you've realized. You have to work with the possibility that you are overspending; incurring money problems; investing yourself, your time, and your talents poorly. You may not be living up to your potential -- or achieving the gains you intend to make.

You may have jeopardized yourself without realizing it ... or exhausted yourself to no ultimate benefit. This matter has your full attention now ... and you understand the impact it has on your thinking and your choices.

You are having to cope with a problematic personality or set of counter-productive attitudes. This may involve a person who takes too many foolish chances with money, who is wasteful with resources, who often shows addictive behavior, or who is physically ill.

He (or she) may be powerful in your career, business, or financial structures. He may also be "keeping you dependent" for some reason. The attitudes featured here may be dishonesty, shady dealings, "anything for a buck," wastefulness, impracticality, fraudulent ideas and dealings, materialism, workaholism, a lack of scruples, materialism, and an overwhelming concern with status.

This may be present in the form of another person -- or it may represent parts of your character that need to be addressed and corrected. You may not feel there is much you can do to improve the situation -- but at least you are aware this energy exists, that it is a problem, and that you have to compensate for or correct it somehow.

Alternatively: You may need to look carefully at some ideas and practices you have adopted that affect your economic situation, business prospects, financial management, or the way you acquire and use physical resources -- including your own time and energy. Something here needs to be rethought, reworked, or redirected so as to not grossly mismanage your own opportunities and resources.

If you resonate to this interpretation more than to the presence of a difficult person in your life now, consider that this is the meaning the card is offering for you to hear and heed.

You are in a situation where the lack of joy in your situation, the blocked emotional fulfillment, frustration, and depression are all too evident. You may be facing a lack of real love, manipulation of yourself or others "in the name of love," and a deep sense of genuine unhappiness. You are not doing anything you enjoy. You don't trust your situation -- or the conditions in it.

You feel you lack the necessary support of others around you ... and the basic pleasures you have a right to expect. You may feel unwanted, abandoned, deceived, unsupported, and unable to offer love and support to others. You ... or someone in your situation ... may be "taking and using" -- and that will exhaust everyone concerned before long. You may not know what to do about this arrangement -- or you may not yet realize how much of a hindrance this energy represents to you.

Soon you will find yourself in a situation that involves money problems, material hindrance, uncontrolled spending, obstacles, and delays in your financial life. The energy here is that of "not enough money," a shaky position, monetary lack, and feeling victimized, exploited, powerless, and "taken advantage of."

Ultimately, you are moving to a resolution that includes a serious atmosphere of quarrelling, anxiety, and deep philosophical disagreement. This is an extremely disagreeable situation, containing, as it does, elements of defeat, unfairness, failure, slander, cruelty, cowardliness, and malice. You may feel you have been treated unfairly ... or realize that you have done so to others. (Possibly both.)

This is a situation of insensitivity, fear, the realization that you are not following your conscience -- if you pause long enough to rationally consider what is happening here. You are pushing an issue ... or using force ... often to no good avail, often to avoid changing your mind about something dear or important to you. Or you are feeling coerced and pressured to change your opinions ... or surrender your ideas ... by circumstances or another person.

This is an energy of victimization, and because energy is always a two way street, you may be either the victim, the perpetrator, or quite likely ... both. You may have to cope with feelings of revenge, the consequences of your self-defeating actions, or the consequences of ruthless responses.

Even "winning" here gains you nothing but an empty victory. You are likely locked into circumstances which involve mind games, game-playing, scoring points, getting even, and working to get "one up" on someone else -- and vice versa. You need desperately to change your thinking.
