What Does This Reading Say?
A Practical Exercise in Tarot Reading
This tarot reading feature can help you test or sharpen your reading skills.
Several times a month a reading layout appears, along with a summary of its meaning,
which you can use as a practical exercise to "see the story" a tarot reading describes
in response to a query.
The readings posted in What Does This Reading Say? are usually ones done for myself, family and friends, staff members, and others who received the work for free in exchange for explicit permission to use them here as teaching aids. These are not private readings done for clients or members. Those are, of course, confidential.
Have a look at the card layout below.
Scroll down until you can see the cards,
but not the suggested answer about the message of the reading.
Consider this reading to address the following request
What does the future hold regarding my work niche?
What does this reading say to you?
What would you tell a client who received this reading?
Practice doing a synopsis of the message as well as
any more lengthy explanation of what each card means.
Try to summarize the message of this reading in 5 - 10 sentences.
Write down your interpretation to be clear on what you think this reading says.
Then when you're ready, look at the synopsis below ...
and see if the flavor of your interpretation
captures the meaning described in the summary.

What does the future hold regarding my work niche?
Summary
You have good resources available, but you are at the end of this level of development ... and need to consider how best to move into your next phase or growth step. You have resources (relationships, materials, ambition, potential) you are not making good use of -- possibly because you don't know you have them, don't appreciate them for what they are, don't "see" them properly, aren't applying them to good advantage, etc. You are caught in tunnel-vision though, lost in a maze of fear, confusion, and quarreling -- either with different parts of yourself or with other people who have conflicting agendas about your situation.
You are moving into a future of unhappiness, anger, prejudiced ideas, and feeling "victimized" ... possibly in ways you can justify because of the "evidence" you can point to ... and yet there is more "self-fulfilling prophecy" on display than actual reality. If you meet parasitical, judgmental people as your situation develops, you need to find new associates ASAP. It is likely however, that kinder attitudes and a more open-minded approach ... things which you control and which you can influence ... could both help you avoid these folks entirely and lift your thinking and sense of power in this situation to help you reach a happier conclusion.

My longer answer ...
According to the Tarot, you have plenty of "wealth" to invest -- or enjoy. This could, however, indicate such things as a strong positive attitude-of-gratitude, good health and stamina, competent skills, a willing spirit to apply energy and labor into your situation. It could even indicate you are really physically and materially comfortable where you are. I'd say you have a lot going for you as things exist at the moment. The 10P, however, can be kind of deceptive though, in that it also suggests you've "reached the end of a major constructive building phase."
Possibly some goal you've wanted for a long time ... and have worked hard to claim ... has been successfully achieved. The 10 in any suit is the pinnacle of accomplishment ... but it is also "completion" of what is of value to you on this growth step. Because change is a constant and inevitable process in life ... the 10 of any suit is ready to either "go on to the next step" ... or dissolve into something completely different ... including here a totally new phase of building and development.
10's are the last gasp of the old order ... before the emergence of Ace energy again ... and Ace energy is always the fundamental essence of growth and new possibility. So ... you're poised in the middle of a major phase of practical completion. Your next step is to start building again -- somehow ... on something new.
You are really, really, really conflicted intellectually about this "work niche" situation. 5S is an energy of fear, confusion, not knowing "what to think," being very unstable in your convictions, and trying to cope with a terrible (and probably terribly painful) ambivalence about your situation. There is no clarity of focus in your thinking on this matter. You are very much "of two minds" on this issue ... and thus are experiencing the unhappiness of "a house divided against itself" ... probably within you.
The 5S also indicates fighting and arguments ... a deep and bitter division between conflicting philosophies or different life-views. If you're not actively quarreling with somebody else ... then the conflict is likely to be one of those excruciating experiences where you are the battleground and the different beliefs are trying to either declare a winner between them ... or hash out some kind of workable compromise. The discomfort though between "what you believe on the one hand" ... and "what you believe on the other hand" ... may be awful! (Been there plenty of times myself!!)
You have assets, allies, talents, resources, opportunities, help available. Only it's caught in the Liabilities position of this reading, which often indicates something you have that you don't recognize, don't realize, don't believe in, haven't "seen," or for some reason are either unwilling or "unable" to use it. An unused asset is also an amazingly painful and perplexing commodity.
A good card showing up in the Liabilities position indicates something you have ... but you might as well not have it, because it isn't doing you any good. Now, objectively you are better off with a bird in the hand ... even a hidden or unrecognized one. But you still have to discover it and put it to use. It's just theoretically easier to do that than to having to manufacture something essential from "nothing" ... or worse.
Your reading closes out with two reversed Knights. Knights are always cards of focus. In this case, they may be focused inappropriately. Reversed Knights are often energy that needs to be focused inward for a while in search of the answers that are trying to emerge so your "Knight energy" can work with it more effectively in the outside world. These are almost certainly elements of your personality ... although they may very well have counterparts in the real world mirroring this energy to you in an attempt to get you to see it somehow!!
The Kt C Rx feels unloved, isolated, unappreciated, unhappy!!! There is no joy, no creative zest ... and a deep feeling of worthlessness and victimization. The Kt C Rx is an energy focused on how unsatisfied he is. He can be very manipulative in wanting somebody to "rescue him" or "take care of him" ... or "make him happy." (And let's face it ... happiness is an "inside job." Nobody can "make" anybody else happy.) The Tarot talks about the possibility you'll roam around in this misery for a while.
And you can make different choices by finding the sources of your own self-love, self-appreciation, creativity, zest for life, and personal joy. Refocusing this energy will entail paying attention to what you enjoy, what you love to do, how you can take better care of yourself emotionally, concentrating on putting your psychological health back under your control rather than playing the "rescue game" with either yourself as the one who needs help ... or finding someone you can "help" in order to feel better about yourself.
(Because I know something of your personal situation, I am concerned about your recent decision to let "an old flame" back into your life when you have lots of reason to know he's basically a con man where emotions are concerned. If this doesn't provide a "mirror" of your wrongly focused and depleted emotional state ... I'll have to look long and hard for a better one. I think if you were in good shape, you wouldn't even consider letting this man and his problems wedge themselves back into your life. You do not need his kind of "love" in order to feel whole and valuable ... I promise you.)
The reversed Knight of Swords is the Swords counterpart to the revered Kt C. He often comes across as angry, bitter, self-righteous, a "know it all." He is closed-minded, intolerant, strongly slanted in his beliefs ... that are wrong-headed and unkind. But he is very reluctant to give up old ideas because he's also heavily invested in "proving himself right." This is not a future to be reaching for. What ideas or beliefs that have caused you pain in the past are you still clutching with such a fiercely possessive hold that they are destined to "become your future" ... if you don't make some different choices?
You appear to be heading into a deeply skewed future reality where the conviction that you can't have what you want in terms of joy, love, happiness, connection, and emotional security will present itself despite unused / unrecognized resources already at your disposal. And this will both strengthen your erroneous perceptions about "how the world is" ... and leave you mad as hell, seriously disoriented, and even more entrenched in your bias -- because you see the "evidence" that proves your point right before your eyes.
Sometimes, I know, it seems there is nothing as terrible as battling your own prejudices -- but my hand to God, that's what it looks like you're up against. And the last thing you need to do here is dump on yourself for being this way.
As gently and kindly as you possibly can ... find the joyful artist, the lover, the poet in your soul ... and nourish her back to health as diligently as you would anyone "on the outside" who needed this kind of attention and compassion. As gently and kindly as you possibly can ... find the smart, clever, resourceful, ingenious "advisor and consultant" who is part of you ... and enlist his positive aid in sorting through this terribly uncomfortable problem. (What would you tell "somebody else" who came to you with this problem?)
The Tarot says you are on the edge of a major growth step in this regard and you have the resources to solve this. But you need to think outside the box (for sure!!) ... you need to honor and love yourself better ... you need to believe in your own smarts and your own worth ... and most of all you need to become your own inalienable best friend!!
