Venus in Taurus square Neptune in Aquarius

Venus in Taurus has moved into a square aspect to Neptune in Aquarius. Venus deals with love, money, possessions and relationships; Neptune deals with mysteries, secrets, and psychological complexes. A square is a 90° aspect of frustration, hindrance, discomfort, and discord.

This combination can stimulate your imagination in ways that are quite compelling and creative. Deeply meaningful artistic work or therapeutic efforts can have their roots in this energy, especially on issues that involve the conduct of your relationships or the examination of past injuries involving love affairs or romantic associations that failed.

But, while this energy is great for stirring up past memories and helping you discover areas that need attention, this combination doesn't usually result in much constructive progress. (The trine that will form in about three and a half weeks is much more conducive to that.) Instead, you may find yourself easily lost in fantasies -- especially ones involving love and money that usually amount to pointless daydreaming rather than positive visualization.

This energy can produce relationship problems, misunderstandings, and unwise, dubious alliances, relationships where important information is not disclosed -- or erroneous, advantageous assumptions are encouraged. There is an unusual amount of dishonesty involving both relationships and money, a lack of directness, a tendency to "make excuses," or to get lost in wild impossible schemes that may never see the light of day -- but which romp through the landscape of your imagination with a vengeance.

The lack of candor and truthful information can be especially troublesome. The potential for matters involving relationships and money that you want to hide, keep secret, not confront directly, or not admit can be considerable. Again, because this energy is more passive than active, you may resort to dreaming rather than doing -- but there's still a fair amount of time and effort invested, even so. Dreaming about an impossible, inappropriate, unavailable, or unrealistic relationship is just an exercise in spinning your wheels.

Another part of this energy is a lack of self-discipline ... the unwillingness to squelch the ill-advised impulse -- because you convince yourself of certain "facts" or possibilities that are truly bogus. This combination is notoriously impractical ... and can also open you up to exploitation by others who are "out to get whatever they can" by playing on your sympathies. Keep in mind, however, you could be playing the same game. Deception is not just something that gets pulled on or by "other people." "Fooling yourself" is also part of this mix.

Mars in Taurus is moving into square aspect with Uranus in Aquarius. Mars deals with action and initiative. Uranus deals with sudden moves and surprises. Again, a square is a 90° aspect of frustration, hindrance, discomfort, and discord.

This combination offers no help whatsoever for those impulse-control issues I just mentioned. This energy is known for impatience, improvisation, and quick reactions which may not be altogether wise or on target. Whatever help the steady, grounded sign of Taurus might offer is wiped out totally by the presence of Uranus in its own sign of Aquarius -- a combination that wrote the book on rebellion, lightning-fast changes, and defiant independence.

The aim of this energy might be sensible, reliable, profitable actions, implemented in novel and progressive ways ... but the stubborn insistence on "doing your own thing in your own fashion" may undercut this intention severely. This can be a headstrong, obstinate, unreasonable energy that prompts actions steeped in these same qualities.

Clearly there could be trouble ahead over the next couple of weeks as people wrapped up in their own schemes and fantasies defiantly decline to listen to reason. You will undoubtedly meet a few examples. But keep reminding yourself ... you are also one of the players in this drama of willful choices. At least be that honest.

Mercury Conjunct the Sun

Mercury, after its most recent period in Retrograde (back in late January and early February) has caught up to the Sun again ... and passed it.

For the next few days, Mercury is in a position astrologers refer to as being "combust to the Sun." Those who consider this condition important argue that the power of the Sun -- with its ego force and robust self-identity -- will, in this position, overshadow the more finely tuned and delicate intellectual sensibilities of Mercury.

The metaphors of this situation suggest problems with intellectual objectivity over the next few days, too much identification with one's own ideas, an automatic resistance to considering other ideas and points of view, and a fervent energy of intellectual pride that can be short-sighted, prejudiced, and offensive.

Having seen this energy in operation, my advice for the next day or two is to understand that the possibility exists for intellectual arrogance and one-sided thinking ... and adjust your timing and choices accordingly. Agreements, contracts, etc., that can be put off for a week ... should be, not only because of this energy, but because the upcoming New Moon in Aries on Friday will offer better deals ... and a completely different set of options for you to consider and work with -- especially on matters that are stalled and unsatisfying at the moment.

This is not the time to be impatient, to force anything that deals heavily in communications, or to push issues that require accord, negotiation, or intellectual understanding.

As far as the change in physical position between the Sun and Mercury is concerned, you will start to see a shift now, away from the phases of planning, research, background preparations, quiet assimilation and intellectual digestion, education, learning, and creative visualization that have been dominant for several months and more emphasis on communication, sharing ideas, offering what you know, broadcasting your knowledge, and pushing your point of view, and gathering new information in a much more aggressive fashion than has been the case for several weeks.

This is the growth phase in the eternal tango between the Sun's proud ego and Mercury's ability to offer adequate intellectual support to keep the needed amount of respect and mental engagement going. This is a more intellectually dynamic and expressive time over all -- and again, everyone in the world will be responding to this new spirit of sharing, learning, arguing, and preaching. (Let's be honest here.)

The creative incubation of the past few months is about to blossom and bear fruit -- until the middle of May, when the next retrograde period of Mercury signals the process of everyone gathering up all their accumulated goodies and new ideas and retiring back into the think-tank to figure out how everything fits ... and how best to work with the new treasures when the next growth period begins.

In the cosmic world (perhaps more clearly than can be observed in "real life"), this is how intellectual evolution occurs ... in these eternal cycles of expansion, revision, incubation, reorganization ... and new expansion. Right this minute, in the vibrant, assertive, and often clamorous sign of Aries ... this process is unfolding one more time.

In other news

Just a quick note that we are moving into the final days of the waning Moon for this cycle. For the next few days, life's natural energy levels are at their lowest ebb in preparation for a time of new initiatives and new beginnings starting with the The New Moon in Aries on Friday afternoon (1:21 PM MDT). This is a time astrologers call The Dark of the Moon ... which is conducive to bringing matters to a close, tying up loose ends, resting, planning, being quiet and reflective, just taking it easy and not making waves.

For the next couple of days, don't start anything new. For sure don't start anything important. It will not come to fruition. Wait for the better, more positive change in outlook and opportunities that will arrive as the week-end itself comes into view. You'll be glad you did.

Next week (not this week) ... prepare to feel a mighty shove on all the issues that feel stagnant and stalled at the moment. The vigorous new energy that is now building and preparing the new wave of progress -- will be more than ready to rock and roll, in just few more days. Catch your breath while you can.

Saturn ... now direct in Gemini ... has just made a very productive trine to Neptune in Aquarius, and last night, Mercury in Aries formed a fulcrum point to balance this energy by sextiling both these karmic giants in an extremely rare formation.

To put this in plain English ... the practical, well-organized, systematic application of ideas and information (Saturn in Gemini) can now achieve real results (trine aspect), using concepts and values that have heretofore been considered extraordinarily abstract and theoretical -- however noble and inspired they sounded in words. (Neptune in Aquarius)

Your personal intellect (Sun conjunct Mercury) can now use this energy in future applications regarding individual goals (sextile aspect, Aries energy) ... in ways that will not only advance your specific spiritual development but will also help meet some of your Karmic business -- and possibly assist your Karmic contributions to the betterment of yourself and those around you. It's quite a momentous little package here.

To put it in still other words ... and as simply as possible, this is an energy that can help make dreams come true -- achieving solid, tangible results out of raw fantasies, vision, and your own ideas!!

It is certainly a time to stay open to new concepts and knowledge and watch for ways to implement long-cherished plans that may have seemed nothing more than impossible dreams heretofore. The eventual opposition between the transiting Gemini planets -- especially Saturn, but also Mercury, Venus, Mars, and the Sun ... one after the other over the next couple of months will break apart some serious obstacles and "limited thinking" that may have crippled your efforts -- or stopped you cold up 'til now.

Out of this explosive power struggle, new paths of progress will appear -- but there may be quite a dust storm generated by all this conflict. There are some serious changes that need to happen in order to set the stage properly for these advancements -- and some of the changes need to happen in you. (In all of us, to tell the truth.)

This is another milestone in a very important time of intellectual progress -- and like anything that requires effort and labor to bring itself into being, there may be a fair amount of discomfort before the new arrivals take their assigned place in the world. Opportunities will be available then ... because of this revolution in viewpoint ... that simply do not exist today -- right now.

Look for the period around the middle of October ... and on into the end of the calendar year ... to hand you chances and options you never expected -- or had despaired of finding. I've been saying for a while it's time to dream big. And it is. This summer an awful lot of changes will happen, and as a result progress into substantially improved circumstances will be a lot easier to manage than it looks at the moment. Another piece of the puzzle has just fallen into place.

Venus has moved into Taurus where it will be for the next several weeks. When Venus is in Taurus, people tend to be affectionate, placid, dependable, and conservative in their relationships. They emphasize qualities such as compassion, devotion, loyalty, stability, patience and kindness in the methods they use to attract love - and express the romantic side of their natures in calm but generous gestures ... often involving gifts or offerings involving "money."

The sensual side of love has prominence during Venus in Pisces ... and people seek their lover's attention and affections by pleasing them, by being "nice," by emphasizing sensory experiences, and by helping supply the things that make life both possible . . . and worthwhile.

With Venus in Taurus, people look for and use beauty, harmony, refinement, quality, and durability in their pursuit of love, relationships and other sources of pleasure - and they can be greedy, extravagant, and self-indulgent when they are feeling deprived or unsatisfied in this area of their lives.

They use money and possessions as their preferred means of "showing off" or assuring themselves they've "got what it takes" to get what they want regarding relationships and the material necessities of life. Since both Venus and Taurus deal explicitly with money, people really emphasize the financial, material, sensory, physical side of life when this energy prevails.

Under stress, the energy sours into behaviors that cause problems in relationships - and the use of money - by being emotionally and financially demanding while at the same time neglecting or even abusing others in this regard.

Personal needs are framed in "unhappiness," hypersensitivity, gluttony, laziness, extravagance, vanity, and stinginess - the manipulation of money and love. Obviously these tactics are doomed to cause nothing but more problems. And they do.
