Mercury Square to Neptune
Today, Mercury in Taurus (intellectual focus on relationships and money) moves square to Neptune in Aquarius (dreaming, fantasizing, self-sabotage, unrealistic visions). A square is an aspect of hindrance, frustration, and over-stimulation.
The prevailing intellectual energy for the next week or so will point out to you how your dreams regarding money, income levels, possessions, and your ability to share this enjoyment with other people have not yet been met. The "scale" on which these fantasies occur may easily include extravagance and luxury, life lived on an extremely lavish plane.
It's wonderful to dream, of course ... and this aspect may show you how you really want to live and point out that you haven't quite made it to this level yet in physical reality. But because Neptune's energy can be extremely fragile, malleable, and hard to control, there are some problems here, too.
While dreaming is intended to boost you into doing something about your visions if they are possible, honorable, realistic, and productive intentions, Neptune can get so carried away with producing the movie in your mind that you settle for dreaming all by itself -- lost in the sweet fantasies of your own concoction, and never accomplish a thing to support those plans out in the outer world where effort counts a lot.
The creative possibilities of this highly charged and visionary energy can be stunning. But they can also lead you down the path of wild schemes that have no practical value, dreams that are never going to happen, and unrealistic ideas that sound great on paper but which create no lasting results.
The really bad part of this energy is a tendency to foster bitterness, self-pity, regrets, envy, and a "can't-win" attitude ... which is the downside of dreaming at its worst. Letting paranoia take over your fantasies is a catastrophic way to use your imagination and its fabulous power -- but that, too, is possible here if you don't exercise some self-control.
As with all the challenging energies -- and squares are certainly that (!!) -- you have to work with a diamond-in-the-rough to get the goodies and do your best to recognize and work with the possibilities of problematic extremes. Some of your best ideas of the year -- especially if you do creative work -- may come to you soon. But putting them into production and practice that proves useful will take a fair amount of self-control and discipline.

The Sun enters Taurus around the midnight hour Friday night / Saturday morning. When the Sun is in Taurus, people will use their personal energy more persistently, practically, purposefully, and with more determination than at other times. They value behaviors and methods that are steady, powerful, dependable and "conserving of energy and resources."
They also emphasize acquisition of income and possessions, using and storing the resources necessary for survival, nurturing new life and new growth, and enjoying physical sensations and pleasures. They will also be concerned with aesthetics and harmony in their environment and with asserting their abstract personal values.
Under stress, people may be unusually stubborn, possessive, materialistic, extravagant, self-indulgent and intractable.

April 12, 2002
The New Moon in Aries is a double dose of drive, assertiveness, ambition, enterprise, and the dynamic desire to start something new, do something bold, and take risks that might have been overwhelming or even foolish until now. This is, in many ways, the launching point of action and development for what will unfold over the next year, so plan your shots carefully and aim high.
On a lot of levels this moment of metaphorical union between self and soul in the sign of initiation and ground-breaking effort is the true beginning of the cosmic year. There is a tremendous amount of ambition, intellectual power, and creative discipline available to boost your efforts forward. This really is no time to be shy.
Consider that perhaps it's better to fall short while reaching for something spectacular than to hold back because you're afraid to take a big enough chance. (At least that's the advice from here. But then I was born under the New Moon in Aries. This energy is in my bones, and I will not spend my life wondering what would have happened if I'd only been a little braver. That's the spirit to use in approaching your own life this month -- and beyond.)
This year will see a lot of changes in established structures, "permanent arrangements," long-standing traditions, and entrenched ideas. A bold new perspective on your life ... and a new world-view for the planet ... is underway. Today's events mark an important point of beginning ... as the real work ahead gets the conspicuous commitment it needs to make progress, and the temperature rises. Everywhere.

Mercury enters Taurus early, early Saturday morning. When Mercury is in Taurus, ideas focus on things like stability, harmony, patience, and solid, long-range planning. With Mercury in Taurus, thinking shows a strong inclination for qualities like affection, compassion, dependability, devotion, loyalty, generosity and "being nice."
This energy is known for being composed, calm, placid, and strongly attached to its own opinions and conclusions. There may be a very obvious emphasis on matters pertaining to income, money, possessions, and the use of material resources. People feel very strongly about making plans and following through on them -- especially where their finances and investments are concerned.
They also are involved with their personal abstract values, their heartfelt beliefs about what's important in life ... and the ways in which their lifestyles reflect and sustain these notions This includes the sense of harmony and sort of physical enjoyments they want and will seek to bring into their lives. Therefore, styles of communicating may be somewhat materialistic and will reflect what people feel they need to support and enjoy themselves properly.
Under stress, communication and styles of thinking become fixed, inflexible, coarse, overly sensitive, lazy, self-indulgent, extravagant, and even jealous.
Finally, Mars enters Gemini about mid-day on Saturday. When Mars is in Gemini, people focus on actions and favor ambitions that are intellectual and inventive. They use tactics and perspectives that are clever, imaginative, quick-witted, and versatile. They may be very involved with activities that involve talking, reading, study, or communication.
The energy of Mars in Gemini has a distinct feeling of physical and intellectual "restlessness." People turn to their verbal skills as a persuasive device to "get the job done" -- thus the levels of speaking, writing, studying, and "preaching" will rise appreciably in the next six weeks.
There is also interest in vigorously promoting your viewpoints, ideas, opinions, and knowledge ... and on aggressively pursuing "facts and information." This energy is very much into "working with your mind rather than with your muscles."
There is further emphasis on variety in the activities you undertake ... because this energy not only likes to have back-up positions and "fall-back plans" in case one strategy for accomplishing a task fails, it likes to have a "lot of irons in the fire." When this energy is dominant, people don't have much tolerance for being bored.
Under stress, people may act in ways that are inattentive, scattered, narrow-minded, opinionated, argumentative, and "too talkative" - as in "all talk and little action." When it comes to going after and getting what they want, they can be unfocused, easily bored, easily distracted, superficial, inconsistent, impatient ... and, let's face it, dishonest and insincere.
