Mercury in Gemini Trine to Neptune in Aquarius

Mars in Gemini (diverse, intellectual methods of action) has just made a trine with Neptune in Aquarius (sudden and highly progressive spiritual insights and unusual artistic impulses.) A trine is an angle between two planets of approximately 120 degrees. The planets situated in this way are considered to be in a benevolent, advantageous relationship to one another, each offering the other outlets for mutually favorable expression.

This combination greatly energizes intuition and prompts charitable actions, especially ones that involve the sharing of knowledge and inspirational insights. This power contains the ability to think of, say, and act on the truly healing gesture, to do and say the right thing at the right time for the best benefit of all concerned, and shows numerous paths for acting with genuine love and benevolence.

It also offers an instinct for avoiding troublesome, dangerous situations ... just because something "doesn't feel right" -- so do pay attention to those warnings. They will be fairly instinctive, however. (The change in routine, or that moment of hesitation or pause, that lets you avoid an accident, for example, which will be a stroke of luck you will never realize happened ... but there it is, inserting its help into your life nevertheless.) You are also able to judge the truthfulness and sincerity of people and situations with special keenness.

Fated meetings ... or little actions that blossom into truly marvelous results ... are also part of this energy's potential, being in the right place at the right time, taking the right action at just the most appropriate and auspicious moment, etc. And as in the case of "avoiding an accident" ... this energy can send miraculous little ripples of goodness out into the world to break on shores you will never see -- and bring exceptional gifts to people you will never meet ... but the source of this benevolence -- was you and what you did.

Further, life will present you now with multiple ways to approach desirable spiritual, artistic, and charitable goals ... things which have a visionary flair and a note of altruism about them. It is especially possible to gain some nice karmic assets during this time -- and reap a few of those rewards as well. This isn't a rare aspect, but it's also not terribly common. The last time this combination formed in these signs was in May, 2000. The nice thing though is you can expect its effects to stick around for several weeks -- and for it to offer itself again in a couple of years.

There is a very private, secret feeling that goes with this energy ... that of anonymous good acts, blessings from unknown sources -- as if your guardian angel steps in to offer you a special favor when you need it, or choices made for deeply personal reasons -- because it just "feels right" for you to do whatever has "inspired" you. It's possible to make some very positive and benevolent lifestyle changes with this aspect in effect, decisions that will bring you into closer alignment with your unique purpose and spiritual essence.

Mercury, the metaphor for intellect and rational thinking, moved into Gemini in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. When Mercury is in Gemini, mental energy is available to be used in some of its purest, most uncorrupted forms. With Mercury in Gemini ideas stress things like communications skills, reading, writing, lecturing, speaking, broadcasting, conversing, study, and data-gathering.

Thinking shows a strong inclination for qualities like innovation, inventiveness, literacy, verbal fluency and dexterity, cleverness, and "brilliance." There may be very obvious emphasis on matters pertaining to logic, analysis, reason, imagination, ingenuity, perception and curiosity.

Skill in "combining facts" and acquiring knowledge and information is particularly important. There may also be a strong feeling of "mental restlessness," and a tendency - or desire - to move quickly from one subject to another to avoid "boredom."

Under stress, communication and styles of thinking become scattered, petty, opinionated, ineffective, argumentative, confused, dissembling, cynical, excitable, unfocused and dishonest. There may be marked episodes of flawed communication . . . and "talking a lot but saying nothing."

Mercury in Taurus Square to Uranus in Aquarius

Mercury in Taurus (practical thinking, a desire to stick to well-laid plans) goes square to Uranus in Aquarius (the generation of independent and inventive proposals) tonight, ushering in a week or more of intellectual excitement that could bring a raft of new ideas, unexpected pieces of information, ingenious concepts "from out of the blue," and sudden changes of viewpoint -- that can both provide new stimulation and catch you totally off guard.

The welcome grounding of Taurus in this equation may keep these new thoughts practical, realistic, and semi-stable ... at least for a few hours, but the change of Mercury into Gemini in the very early hours of Tuesday morning is sure to kick the idea factory into very high gear. At that point we will have both these highly volatile, cerebral, communicative planets in their own signs of rulership -- and the mental fireworks will shower new concepts into your life like sparklers on the 4th of July.

The stressful side of this square energy comes from a definite nervous tension that marks all of these planets and signs, even under the best conditions. You may be blessed with more brilliant ideas than you can handle. A definite sense of urgency may accompany their implementation. Insomnia ... from the stress of this combination is possible, and if you have tendencies toward this in the first place, it may be aggravated by this energy.

You also may speak first and engage the brain later -- which is a notorious problem with this square. Not that you'll necessarily say stupid things, or untrue things ... just things you wish you'd thought twice about announcing -- or revealing. The lightning fast responses contained in this energy now may make this a special hazard.

You also need to be especially careful driving for the next couple of weeks. This obsession with speed and quickness translates very easily into a brick-foot on the accelerator and making sudden moves without benefit of a turn signal. Everyone is feeling pushed and impulsive now ... and distracted by all the activity as well, and may be paying more attention to the conversations and movies in their minds than to conditions on the roads and highways. Just remember: Caution pays ... every chance you get.

But for those of us who love playing with the acrobatics of thought ... on a high wire without a net, this can be a most exhilarating bit of fun. Have a good time.

We've just passed the Full Moon phase between the Taurus Sun and the Moon in Scorpio ... so for the next week or so, a whole new set of options ... and stresses will be playing in the background of all our lives as we confront the issues posed by questions of personal ownership versus the advantage of joint enterprise.

The opposition between the Taurus Sun and the Scorpio Moon represents the basic division between "what's mine" and "what's ours." The energy of the Taurus Sun can be exceedingly possessive, money-conscious, materialistic, and jealous. Some issue regarding possessions and ownership, the right to exercise authority over your own material assets, the control you have regarding your own financial support may be front-and-center in your attention for a while.

The Scorpio Moon, however, sees the advantages of investment, the greater structures that can be built with your assets and those of others ... and therefore the well-known power struggle of relationships may emerge as you face the choice of retaining economic autonomy vs. merging your resources and wealth (which could be money, possessions, talent, energy, efforts, anything to do with something you provide from your own riches with someone else for the greater benefit of all concerned.

It cannot be overstated how touchy these issues could be ... because passions run as high over money as they do over sex. So, while this is a time to consider your economic and physical options carefully ... it's also a time to be aware of the tensions -- and be careful. Period.

New plans, new resolve, and new methods of practical implementation will arrive with the The New Moon in Taurus ... on May 12th. You'll have more clarity ... and more ability to trust your new directions if you defer any major financial decisions until then.

Venus in Taurus Square to Uranus in Aquarius

Venus in Taurus (redoubled emphasis on relationships, financial affairs, possessions) has moved into square aspect with Uranus in Aquarius (redoubled emphasis on surprises, instability, upsets). A square angle is an indication of frustration, aggravation, impatience, and over-stimulation.

Obviously this can add a not-altogether-welcome note of irritability and sudden changes to both your relationships and your financial life -- places where one does not ordinarily relish such moments. There are of course, always two sides to every expression of energy, but squares usually place their emphasis on the annoying, abrasive potential for problems they contain.

Venus square to Uranus brings in a mood of unpredictability and edginess that can really chafe at being confined to the status quo. The desire for more freedom, more variety, more contacts, more adventure, and more "eccentricity" (to put it kindly) can clearly disrupt the familiar routines of established relationships and connections. While granted, both parties are subject to these feelings and this energy now, neither one may be thrilled to hear, "Honey, I love you bunches, but I'd sure like a little something on the side. Just a little fling ... you know?"

This is, however, exactly where fantasies can lead during this time of promoting shake-ups, independence, and "new experiences." Life may throw some awfully nice "food for fantasy" in your direction over the next couple of weeks, and relationships that have become too confining, too humdrum, too predictable will suffer the most disruption from this parade of possibilities.

Uranus, however, trades on what is unusual, unique, and often inappropriate -- so while the fantasies of greener pastures and the relationships these visions could spawn may be exciting, the likelihood these will settle down into something reliable is virtually nil. Yes, relationships formed with this energy in its make-up can continue ... but they will always be unsettled, unreliable, and troublesome -- especially for those who want partners who behave themselves and play by "the normal rules". This energy turns rebellious and prickly at the mere mention of routine.

Sometimes this can offer a breath of freshness to partnerships that have grown stale -- prompting a little experimentation and dabbling in "the different" ... but that's not the usual calm, fun result. Relationships won't necessarily explode now from hurtful revelations and too much acting out of one's fantasy life -- but the potential for significant shake-ups is present, especially if your Natal Chart contains anything near 28° of a fixed sign -- Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius..

The same cautions apply now to your financial life. This energy can bring surprising expenses -- often involving things that could be called "accidents," unusual things to have to spend your money on (and often in unusual amounts, which can also be a problem.) But it can also indicate the opportunity for a purchase that has an almost magnetic appeal -- an impulsive, out-of-character purchase that may be quite exciting for a while, but whose allure is short-lived.

When this energy moves on, you may wonder what on earth got into you. Still, it is possible to really enjoy this energy, if you can let its results appeal to the pioneer -- or the eccentric in you. This combination also lends itself nicely to outlandish self-indulgence and the willingness to "try anything once." To say this energy nourishes the Free Kid and the Inner Clown is completely true ... and hand in hand they may have a right jolly time. But putting them in charge of your checkbook -- or bringing home the results to your partner with a sheepish grin and a plea for mercy ... well, that could be another story.

In other news

Venus moves on into Gemini around the noon-hour tomorrow, Thursday. This adds even more volatility to the issues I've just been describing ... because Venus in Gemini loves having an array of romantic partners to choose from and thrives on diversity. More than one fantasy of an inappropriate relationship may ramble through your head -- and more than one opportunity to really splurge on something wild may show up.

The positive side of this energy is that you'll also see more than one way to get your needs met -- and be willing to try them all. You could wind up learning a thing or two about how to indulge your creative spirit. (Or maybe your tolerance for living dangerously.)

When Venus is in Gemini, people tend to be "intellectual" in their focus on love and money -- which could lead to a lot of rationalizing over why this great new relationship you've been offered might be fun or permissible or entertaining. ("After all, we're so intellectually compatible ... and what I really love about you is your mind." [sure, sure])

In the case of money, being logical can certainly be an asset, but being "logical in love" does detract somewhat from the romance. Still in both these important areas of life, people emphasize qualities such as intellect, reason, focus, curiosity, and inventiveness.

They may learn a lot - and think a lot - about the matters at hand, but again, the feeling side of the equation gets shortchanged. With this energy combination, people are looking for intellectual compatibility in their relationships. They want someone they can talk to. Trouble is, they may also be "more talk than action" when it comes to following through on their conquests.

They may also think and dither rather than seizing the initiative in matters of the heart. And, they can also be looking for "variety" ... so that more than one possibility appeals to them, or they may put effort into diversifying an existing relationship situation.

They can come up with inventive and clever ways of wooing and wowing their love interests ... often with written or spoken messages of devotion. Again, that may lose some of its appeal when more than one person is on the receiving end of such attentions.

But on the money side of the equation, diversifying income sources and dealing with finances in a logical manner ... can be a very wise thing.

Under stress, attention paid to relationships becomes nervous, inattentive, restless, fickle and scattered. Romantic pursuits may be extremely superficial and have no staying power at all. Relationships suffer from being analyzed incessantly and subjected to critical, closed-minded, opinionated, and inconsistent behavior.

Money may go to a variety of places ... running short from the sheer number of choices, and there may be strong preference to spending heavily for the sake of entertainment and diversion.

If you can maintain a little control here, the trine between these two planets that will form on the 19th of next month smoothes out this erratic, and often frivolous energy considerably -- and the results you can bring about then may be far more satisfying than what you're into at the moment. They won't, however, produce as much adrenaline.
