Venus / Mars / Saturn conjunct in Gemini
Opposing Pluto in Sagittarius
Well this is the line-up astrologers have been watching with both interest and dread for some time now ... taking place in the next few days.
Ordinarily, all this united energy (Venus / Mars / Saturn) in any sign would be extremely positive and constructive. By itself, this triple conjunction in Gemini indicates unified thought -- and the different energies bring a rare and interesting asset of intellect, action, and relationships into being.
With Venus in Gemini conjunct Saturn in Gemini -- the energy is that of unified, concerted, business-like relationships and alliances, forming associations that are meant to last and that have solid, sensible foundations. This energy also indicates the careful, cautious use of resources and assets -- channeled along tried and true paths of growth and expenditure. It's not a terribly romantic energy, since "logic" is so much a part of its composition, but obviously such affiliations have their place in the world. This conjunction occurred on Tuesday morning May 7 in the United States.
With Venus conjunct Mars in Gemini -- the energy is that of passionate involvements, alliances based on the forceful assertion of ideas and the promotion of unified opinions. It is tremendously vital, creative, and intense -- and in this sign, speaks of highly energized ideas and the presentation of knowledge along multiple lines of communication and on more than one topic. This conjunction will occur on Friday afternoon in the United States.
With Mars conjunct Saturn -- as described in the last issue of Step by Step (and on Now Starring on the Celestial Stage in the Premium Members section), humanity has begun to collect solid, sensible information, theories, and concepts and arrange them into new judgments and beliefs that will direct actions and choices on the "world stage," and in individual lives, for the next 30 years.
Consciously directed or not, this is the basic work to which everyone in the world is contributing at the moment -- in his or her unique fashion. This alliance depicts the focused, structured, controlled and forceful energy needed to get work done and put ideas into action. This conjunction occurred on Friday, May 3.
This is a resourceful, durable, courageous combination -- able to go the distance and deal with a lot of hardship along the way. In this sign of Gemini, you are especially able to use what you know to reach practical results and find multiple ways of getting the job done -- operating on the principle that with more than one trick up your sleeve you're in a much better position to get the results you're aiming for ... by hook or by crook. You have allies to help you, and are willing to devote resources and effort to the cause -- whatever it may be.
The trouble is, however, the opposition to Pluto in Sagittarius that's affecting this conjunction (and the opportunities it represents) through extreme reactions and relationship problems. Oppositions from Pluto indicate serious, antagonistic relationship issues that may be karmic in nature ... and are certainly apt to generate Karma if they aren't handled properly. These issues deal specifically with the improper use of force.
Oppositions from Pluto spawn behavior that is demanding, dictatorial, domineering, and often merciless. There is a peculiar lack of conscience afoot when Pluto gets his dander up, and the intractable decision that you will get your own way on an issue can result in serious, even dangerous consequences. The decision to act without consideration for the wishes, rights, desires, or even the fates of other people is a hallmark of Pluto on a rampage.
Keeping in mind energy is always a two way street, you may find yourself caught up in the willful misbehavior of someone else, a power struggle with someone else where your decision to win, come what may, sets loose an unforeseen and often extremely unfortunate chain of events, or where you may be caught up in classical and disruptive "circumstances beyond your control."
Obviously there are disturbing ways Pluto's malefic meaning could rock lives in the outer world ... and those ripples carry right on into the personal lives of each of us. Feelings and passions are apt to run awfully high for the next several weeks (or quite a few months in some cases).
Venus opposing Pluto can represent jealousy, uncontrolled emotions, and severe disruptions and changes in relationships and finances -- as circumstances end and are "born again" in improved form ... eventually. This is, after all, how Pluto works. And the promise of all his demolition is that things will be better after he's done. He makes no promises, though, about your comfort in the meantime. (This will occur exactly on May 9.)
Mars opposing Pluto is a classically violent energy, depicting a willingness to use excessive force, physical coercion, and whatever means are necessary to gain one's ends. (This occurred exactly on May 8.)
Saturn opposing Pluto depicts the explosive break-up of structures usually considered "permanent" or solid. Often there are major social or cultural changes involved in a clash between these two karmic giants. Circumstances that are harsh or dangerous frequently appear in conjunction with this opposition -- and as I said, often there are karmic issues on display -- and new ones being formed, during these often fateful months. (This will occur against exactly for the last time on May 25, although these two will remain close enough for this aspect to be considered valid until well into next year.)

Mars conjunct to Saturn With
Venus and Mercury soon to follow
Mars in Gemini (intellectual assertiveness and ambition, physical energy coupled with mental power and initiative) has caught up with Saturn in Gemini (intellectual structure and organization, the application of knowledge and information in professional and other highly public uses) to create an extraordinarily powerful energy of intellectual ambition and the opportunity to use knowledge to generate practical, tangible, useful results.
The last time this conjunction of Mars and Saturn occurred in Gemini was March 31, 1972. (They almost made it again in April 1974 ... but Saturn moved into Cancer first ... and the conjunction occurred at 0° there.) If you have placements in your Natal Chart around 14° of any sign, this conjunction has special meaning for you. (I would consider anything from 10° to 16° of any sign in your Natal Chart to be in a position to aid -- or possibly hinder -- in this effort.)
Even if you don't have Natal placements in these significant degrees, this configuration kicks off a time of building that will bring new features into your life over the next two years that could well be important parts of your life in the future for the next thirty years.
(Notice also the wonderful sextile between the Moon and Neptune in Aquarius helping this force find idealistic, altruistic, progressive, and highly inspired uses.) Venus and Mercury in Gemini are also part of the mix -- Venus in Gemini with its close trine to Neptune, makes this energy cluster especially imposing It would be hard to overstate the creative, spiritually instructive, therapeutic ... and potentially profitable power of this enormously impressive combination.
You will be investing considerable personal resources in some venture that involves the application of knowledge, the use of information, possibly new study and research on your part, sharing ideas and concepts with others, and acquiring a whole new database of opinions and concepts on which to center your own judgments and viewpoints.
The impending opposition to Pluto in Sagittarius suggests this new set of attitudes could be quite controversial, revolutionary ... even "dangerous" ... as it shatters the comfortable status quo you have become used to -- and sets entirely new beliefs in place about the way the world operates and how you propose to respond to these changes.
An intellectual and philosophical power struggle of sizeable dimension is taking shape here ... which may place you in serious disagreement with other people and eventually prompt a need to find a workable compromise in your efforts to move this new venture of yours to completion. At the very least you will need to abandon ideas you may have relied on for quite some time -- and adopt new philosophical tenets (based on new knowledge), new "rules for living," as part of your new foundation.
Again, the first sticks of dynamite have just been detonated in this new construction project -- and while you may have some notion of what the final result will look like, you are still working from blueprints -- and those blueprints will change significantly over the summer months. You won't really begin to appreciate the changes and proposed final shape of this enterprise for a while yet -- but the work, once it undergoes the reform and "improvement" of the opposition to Pluto, is underway.
Realize this all sounds very exciting ... and in the long term, it is. But it probably will not be very comfortable. Change on this scale and in these areas -- the intellectual concepts that shape your beliefs about virtually everything -- are the stuff of raw, tangible creation. You will literally see the principle at work: "Change your mind and you will change your world." But with the upset to cope with, it may take you a while to appreciate both the power of this energy and the value of the final product it hands you.
In other news
Venus in Gemini and Mercury in Gemini, as I mentioned, are part of this equation ... also making a trine with Neptune and the Moon in Aquarius as this Mars / Saturn conjunction occurred. At the same time, The Sun was within minutes of an exact semi-sextile to this conjunction.
In plain English, this indicates the opportunity now exists to apply new ideas, new constructive efforts, new information, physical power, relationship resources, and forceful, organized communication to a project of some importance to you ... which may meet with substantial opposition in the beginning, undergo a major overhaul in response to this resistance, and emerge out the other side with a vastly improved result (although this process of change may be very upsetting and disagreeable), and allow you to end up building a new set of ideas and intellectual structures in your life that will be extremely useful and momentous for you in the years ahead.
I know that says a mouthful ... but 90% of the astrological players (Notice Jupiter in Cancer is still forming a sextile with the Sun in Taurus) are involved in this task ... and the number of heavy hitters among the outer planets ... Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto (Uranus being the only one really out of pocket now, but its energy exists in the Aquarius placement of Neptune) ... suggests this venture you're about to launch could have deep karmic roots as part of humanity's overall evolution -- and the contribution you make to the joint effort could also be part of why you arrived here to participate!
It certainly is enough to make you stop and wonder ... what are you planning to do with your life for the next 2 - 30 years? How can you make the most of this opportunity ... and what could you yourself add to the mosaic that contributes your unique personal and spiritual gifts in the best way possible? The answers to those questions could be mighty interesting -- and your mission now, should you decide to accept it, is to discover those answers and start creating the eventual results.
