Pluto Retrograde
April 2 through September 8

Well, Pluto has turned retrograde.
It will be that way until September 8.

Pluto will back into Sagittarius for a while, to tidy up some dangling ends, evidently, before returning to Capricorn ... this time to stay about 15 years. Pluto's progress through the Zodiac depicts long, long, long segments of change, evolution and adjustment. It can describe events and conditions that are highly uncomfortable ... pointing out the pieces of life that need to be discarded, improved or replaced. It can mark its passage in moments of extraordinary chaos and upset ... calling for reconstruction essentially from Square One when it finally gets done with the demolition. But usually its work is more subtle -- but still implacable -- as it discards what is used up and inappropriate, recycles what can be salvaged and refines what it can improve.

Pluto certainly brings changes to individual lives ... especially if you have Natal planets being jangled by its passage, but they are often shifts that happen over 2 - 7 years, building so slowly you may need even more time and perspective to really get a fix on what all took place. It can be hard to see the transformations "as they occur" ... because you're too close to the action -- and maybe too busy just trying to keep up with the day-to-day necessities of living life and trying to stay afloat.

But from a distance and in retrospect, you start to appreciate the massive adjustments and course corrections that did arrive ... in the background and under the surface. The very contours of your life may be altered by Pluto's passage in the affairs of the house it's traveling through, but it can take a while to see the whole picture.

So ... right now, Pluto in retrograde is grinding back and forth over the degrees of 28 and 29 Sagittarius ... and 0 and 1 Capricorn. (Astrology operates on a continuum, remember. The end of one sign merges pretty seamlessly into the beginning of the next.) It continues to describe huge social changes and greater awareness of "stuff that needs fixing" in the areas of law and religion (Sagittarius concerns) ... and even now, you can see some of the landscape it's setting its sights on for "attention" in the next decade and a half. Government and big business ... institutionalized structures ... Capricorn's interests.

Pluto in retrograde, even if you have affected planets, may not "do much" out in the open for a while. It's setting things up for when it goes direct again ... and if this is one of multiple passages of this planet over sensitive points in your chart, you're in for "more" of what you've already worked with, as new invitations, greater pressures and the closure of old situations push you forward into different arrangements

It will be retrograde until early September, and day to day, you may not notice much, but the start of 2009 will be more interesting because of what happens 'tween here and there. If you have Natal points near 28-29° of Aries, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius or Aquarius ... or near 0° of Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn or Pisces ... this period marks a time when life sets up some very nice goodies for you to claim -- and use -- and enjoy in the coming months and years, changes and improvements you can really capitalize on nicely because they work so well with your native character and values.

If you have Natal points near 28-29° of Virgo or Pisces ... or 0-1° of Aries or Libra ... the renovations taking place are far less comfortable ... because they're monkeying with structures you rely on for "stability." Things like home, family, living arrangements, career, status and professional standing. Usually people would just as soon those not be targeted for massive overhaul. (But, keep reminding yourself ... things will be better when the work's finally done!!)

If you have Natal points near 28-29° of Gemini ... or 0-1° of Cancer ... "other people" -- and the changes in them and the changes they bring into your world -- set the stage on which your life's drama will unfold for a while. The discomfort here can seem more unwelcome because it looks like other people are in charge of decisions that are causing you massive upset and inconvenience. Again, not the sort of situation you want to have deposited on your porch. Still, you'll learn a thing or two about dealing with crises and power struggles before this is over. The good news? It will someday be over!

So ... which house in your Natal Chart holds these degrees where Pluto is kicking up sand and rearranging the furniture to suit its future plans? That's where you'll feel a change in the activity levels for a while.
