Astrology is about so much more than just your Sun Sign -- the sign the Sun was in when you were born, the sign you undoubtedly know best, the sign you name when someone asks you, "What's your sign?" The Sun travels through all twelve Zodiac signs during the course of the year, and stays in each for about a month. This makes it easy for you to know ... to a reasonable certainty ... what sign the Sun was in when you were born.

From approximately December 21 until January 20 of each year, the Sun is in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn energy is devoted to building, fortification, establishing durable long-term protection, and creating permanent structures. It's a time to look at your life's achievements -- especially in terms of your professional success -- and determine what you need to create, shore up, change, improve, and put out onstage so the world can admire who you are, what you've achieved, and what you've become.

Capricorn is a very formidable, "grown-up" energy that asks you to claim authority in some special area of skill, establish yourself as an example, teacher, and mentor ... and contribute your special and valuable creations for the benefit of society itself ... and to give the world something to admire as your unique legacy. Capricorn asks, in stern and sober tones ... "What have you done with your life that is worthwhile and lasting? And what do you want to do with that now?"

If it sounds like there is an evaluating, judgmental tone there ... I wouldn't argue with that. Capricorn's energy is very "down to brass tacks" and very "bottom line" in its views. It is a practical, enduring, determined, and imminently constructive energy that demands you do something with yourself, your talents and your opportunities to produce something worthwhile, something worth having, something to justify taking up time in this life and resources on this planet.

If that kind of flies in the face of the pop psychology, New Age notion that you deserve unconditional love no matter what ... well, tell it to Capricorn. (As in "Tell it to the judge.") Capricorn will point out with its usual indisputable logic that everything you have to enjoy is the result of work done by people in countless generations before you. Their results provide you with opportunities, comforts, knowledge, safety, structure, and benefits beyond telling.

You aren't still living in a cave, trying to learn how to work with fire because souls beyond measure, imbued with Capricorn ambition and persistence, built structures from everything they knew and had achieved -- for future generations to use as a starting point. If you build from a solid base of materials and information that somebody else has provided for you ... man, are you ever ahead of the game. That's Capricorn's gift to us all ... the will to leave something of value behind that will provide benefits and outlast the lifespan of the creator.

Without Capricorn ... the marvelous intellect and knowledge of Sagittarius is empty egghead theory. Without Capricorn ... the inventive ingenuity and progressive drive of Aquarius has nothing to work with. Capricorn, the final earth sign in the Zodiac, is the energy that provides practical application for all those Sagittarius concepts ... and provides a working platform from which Aquarius can launch its high-flown ideals of progress and "building a better tomorrow."

It's time to turn your attention to what's solid for you, what's real for you, and what you want to build. The area of your Natal Chart devoted to Capricorn energy is where most of the action now will happen. This area of focus is different for everyone ... and thus the issues being brought onstage for attention will be different for everyone.

Here is the general "rule of thumb" areas for the different signs during Capricorn. (But it helps immensely if you know exactly which sector of your Natal Chart is devoted to Capricorn energy.)

• Aries: professional projects, public status and career directions, matters of fame, prestige and reputation, community standing, ventures where you want "full authority"
• Taurus: efforts that involve education, writing, and teaching, career preparation and expansion plans, cultural enhancements, "more expertise"
• Gemini: investments, communal assets and jointly shared wealth, reconsolidation of mutually owned resources
• Cancer: partnerships and alliances, teamwork projects, relationships ... and "public relations," matters that affect your marriage or your spouse
• Leo: work, health, and lifestyle matters, decisions concerning your job -- and the responsibilities you agree to fulfill
• Virgo: creativity and self-promotion, leisure interests and hobbies, decisions about your children and brain-children, artistic projects, things you love to do
• Libra: home and family issues, decisions that affect your roots and private life, your physical living arrangements, your mother -- and your relationship with her (played out in memory if you are not in close touch with this person)
• Scorpio: ideas and intellectual interests; your desire to read, write, study, talk; your need to travel -- and move around physically -- to "take in new territory"
• Sagittarius: money, possessions, income, economic decisions, financial strategies, your abstract values, the ways you choose to support yourself
• Capricorn: personal presentation, physical appearance, the way you "advertise" yourself to the world
• Aquarius: long-range behind the scenes planning, issues of healing, recuperation, therapy, and rest, matters of faith and inspiration, the desire for more seclusion -- to work on research and intellectual interests
• Pisces: hopes and dreams for the future, your decision to act on unexpected opportunities, projects that involve your ideals and personal ingenuity, life directions that are "uniquely you"
