The Spiritual Law of Polarity

The Law of Polarity exists in both spiritual and physical reality. Physicists say for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Mystics call it Karma. And yet, this literally must mean that within the action itself is the seed, the impetus, the genesis of the reaction.

By this logic, without pain, pleasure would be so meaningless it literally could not exist. With nothing for comparison ... pleasure would simply be "life." And "joy" would be diluted down to "routine."

Following this logic, something tragic, destructive, bad, even evil ... contains within it the seeds of something good, uplifting, creative, nourishing, and noble. (And the cynics among us would note, perhaps with reason, that this may also be why no good deed goes unpunished.)

Still, it seems almost a human compulsion -- to create this polarity of benefit out of tragedy, to make something good out of something awful -- to redeem the experience and fashion advantages and blessings from it. It is as if the legacy of sorrow and suffering must itself spark the impulse that turns the energy around. It becomes the thrust that reacts ... to create something grand as a result of what has already happened.

So, here's where the idea of "equal and opposite" comes into play. Something "a little bit bad" can, by its very nature, produce only something "a little bit good." Like the gentle touch of a breeze against a swing or the pendulum of a wind chime. The tranquility of stillness or silence is only softly disturbed by motion and melody.

By this logic again, out of devastation comes greatness. Catastrophe is quite literally a necessary ingredient, a prelude to great progress, great blessing, great goodness. The awfulness of an event, an experience, an act forecasts the awesomeness of what will eventually come to pass in response.

Equal and opposite. It exists in everything. It is a law of life ... that requires only time and patience to work its wonders.

Physicists know this. Mystics know this.

And now, so do you.
