Things to Know About Mars Trine Pluto

Mars in Leo Trine Pluto in Sagittarius

Mars, the metaphor for action and initiative, and Pluto, the metaphor for change and improvement, have formed a trine ... an angle of 120° in the sky, an alliance with some nice benefits to offer.

When Mars is trine to Pluto, a marked degree of willpower becomes available to everyone. You are able to act on your own initiative with rare decisiveness, and see matters through to the improvement or conclusion you have in mind with uncompromising determination.

Although far more peaceful in expression than the harsher combinations of Mars and Pluto, this is an energy built for achievement, and there is, nevertheless, a pugnacity to its firm attitude that it will have its own way. About the only difference now to the usual sheer demand for results is a willingness to say "Please" ... and you can feel the conscious nod to courtesy and an almost teeth-gritting grudging-ness in the tone.

For Mars / Pluto combinations, courtesy is dispensable (to say the least) ... and observing it now is simply expedient, more labor-saving than a pitched battle. But a pitched battle for supremacy in whatever it puts its mind to is still an option ... even in this fairly benevolent union of these two warlike energies.

It's a little much to compare this mood to the Warrior wearing his Diplomat's costume. It's more the Warrior dictating terms he feels will be readily obeyed ... for whatever reason. Cooperation, agreement, fear, a wish to keep the fragile peace alive. The objective is the result ... because each new change is a preliminary move toward the completion of a much greater scheme -- and that aim is where your sights are likely set now.

With this energy in place, you are ready to defend what you believe to be right ... with no holds barred and no willingness to cave in to threats, pressure, or the prospect of an uphill battle. You may get a lot accomplished while this energy predominates if you don't commence a struggle with someone whose agenda is completely at odds with yours. The ruthlessness you both feel could be a problem.

Still, this is a time that promotes a dynamic, affirmative attitude toward life for everyone. The view of existence as a flowing, changing pattern instead of a static condition is now easy to grasp. It's also one of those peculiar times when you can use your spiritual beliefs to recharge yourself physically -- in an exchange of power that seems almost magic. And so you will emerge from these next several weeks reinvigorated and restored despite the kind of work load you'll handle in the meantime.

For unqualified production of changes and movement, this is one of the best combinations you'll find offered for quite a while. The next time this rambunctious pair meets up will be in about six weeks, when Mars will be in picky, carping, impossible-to-please Virgo -- at which time, life won't be nearly so much fun.

From Feb 2002*

Mars in Aries goes trine to Pluto today, marking a time of extremely profitable action and progress regarding personal ambitions and revolutionary ideas.

A trine is an angle between two planets of approximately 120 degrees. The planets situated in this way are considered to be in a benevolent, advantageous relationship to one another, each offering the other outlets for mutually favorable expression - avenues through which to generate and use genuine natural talents and new ideas. The one now forming between Mars and Pluto is especially productive.

Mars, the astrological metaphor for personal initiative, ambition, and direct action, is now strongly placed in its own sign of Aries, the energy of enterprise, resourcefulness, candor, assertiveness, and, yes, impatience. In trine to Pluto, the astrological metaphor for revolution and improvement, in Sagittarius, the energy of benevolence, generosity, sophisticated learning, expansion, and philosophical structure ... the stage is set for extremely exciting and dynamic ventures that partake of all these qualities.

In plain English, a radical change in your "rules for living," the philosophies by which you run your life, will both set off and support some aggressive new personal statement about what you want to do, create and become over the next couple of years -- when Mars returns to Aries and trines Pluto in Sagittarius again ... in a later degree of the signs.

There is genuine courage and boldness available here now, however, the courage to take risks you may have wavered on in the past, and make some changes that will have long-range repercussions for the whole structure of your life, especially involving the thoughts on which you base your ethical compass.

It's a time of living and acting with greater verve and honesty. You're not only willing to back up your professed beliefs, the things you know in your heart to be true, with immediate, decisive action, you're pretty much ready to run over anybody foolish enough to get in your way.

This can kick off some extremely expansive and liberating new features in your individual lifestyle ... which you will build with personal power and plain old-fashioned elbow grease over the next two years. At least that amount of time will get you well into the next "stage" of this development -- because you may have selected something of monumental scope to work on during this more-than-a-decade when Pluto in Sagittarius will offer you miraculous inspirations for living a life that is authentically and emphatically you.

If you have personal points at 17° of any sign, but most especially around 17° of Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius, Gemini, or Libra ... this configuration could mark quite a watershed moment in the course of your life. Your ability to use this energy and this time, will be tremendously enhanced ... and eventually, you will be able to look back and see how, from this point forward, life changed -- into something quite wonderful, with work accomplished with your own vision and under your own steam.

Set your sights high. This vibrant, enthusiastic energy can take you pretty much anywhere you want to go.

What Does Mars Represent in Your Natal Chart? -- What is it ... and why is it important? ---> Red is Mars' color!! -- The symbol of force and power -- Mars, fiery red, the favorite prop of science fiction legend, named for the intense, passionate mythological god of war, is the astrological metaphor which symbolizes an individual's capacity to take action, show independence and self-assertion, pursue goals and ambitions, use physical and sexual energy, and exert his force and willpower in situations of competition and conflict.

Mars in General -- Your Inner Self of Action, Initiative and Self-Assertion ---> Red is a Mars color! -- Symbol of energy and ambition == In Astrology, Mars represents physical energy, your ability to take action and your instincts for self-assertion and aggression. Mars supports your independence and your ability to set goals and achieve them.

Pluto Retrograde -- Rebuilding in the Wake of Revolution ---> Pluto -- death and resurrection -- Pluto. If you know anything at all about the symbolism of this strange, erratic, controversial planet (which some scientists don't consider a planet at all, and other scientists consider part of a double planet set along with its own Moon, Charon, with whom it shares an atmosphere), you know it represents situations and experiences that deserve more than passing respect.

Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn -- Originally written April 2009 ---> The long relentless break-down -- Transiting Pluto -- both direct and retrograde -- depicts the loooooong-term process of tearing down and improving things that are worn out, exhausted, inappropriate, obsolete, ineffective and falling into ruin.

Pluto -- The Symbol of Irresistible Change ---> When things change ... drastically -- Pluto. If the idea of this planet and all its metaphorical meanings, all the things it symbolizes out in the real world, don't cause the hair to ripple on the back of your neck and an inward shudder to pass through the core of your body like a sudden gust of frigid wind, well, then you don't know it like I do.

Pluto: Ruler of Scorpio -- Symbol of Your Transformative, Regenerative Self ---> Pluto, with its bizarre, irregular orbit, is the last of the discovered planets in this Solar System which the basic metaphorical language of astrology contains. Occasionally it is the outermost of the known planets, although during part of its journey around the Sun it moves inside the orbit of Neptune.

Mars in Aries -- Action with Intensity, Initiative, and Courage ---> Red is a Mars color ... and an Aries color!! -- Mars in Aries -- Mars shows your ability to take assertive action; your capacity for aggression; your outward sexual expression; your use of energy, force and willpower to achieve your ambitions and desires; your ability to be direct and independent; and your competitive spirit.

When Mars is in Aries -- Your Action Self -- in the Sign of Initiative and Self-Assertion ---> Red is a Mars color! -- The home-field advantage -- When Mars is in Aries, people are adventurous, pioneering, and assertive. Their attitudes are independent and aggressive. They show initiative, are competitive, and respond well to a direct approach. This energy is active, driven and self-promoting. It is very up-front and honest about its goals and desires ... and is willing to go directly after results.
