From May 2002*
The final exact contact between these two huge karmic giants has just occurred. Saturn in Gemini has opposed retrograde Pluto in Sagittarius at approximately 17%%deg%% of their respective signs.
Abstractly, this represents solid ideas, entrenched thinking, formal and organized beliefs, traditional opinions, and long-standing knowledge or prejudices accepted as conventional wisdom or unshakable truth being blown apart and reformed by radical, revolutionary new ways of thinking, explosive new philosophical views, new "rules for living" that are nothing short of "dynamite." A new world view is being born and the ripples will shudder through life as we know it for the rest of this year and well into next.
Given the two signs in question, these events, as they unfold, may involve legal, religious, ethical, and philosophical differences based on greater knowledge, volatile disclosures, radical judgments ... and the absolute refusal to accept shallow, standard answers or excuses any longer. Given the planetary metaphors ... deep-rooted fixtures such as government, the legal system, traditional religious institutions, and corporate businesses may be involved in the shake-up -- forced into change by something that amounts to revolution ... literal as well as metaphorical.
The next year ... and some time beyond as well ... is going to be an interesting one. It's fair to say "business as usual" ... will not continue as we know it. The times they are again a'changin' ... and uncomfortable as it may be in the interim, when the dust settles and the smoke clears -- things will be better. Improvements will exist that wouldn't have been possible without the trauma of the problems that will cause them. And a better "working philosophy" on which to conduct your life will have been set in place of the one that got booted so unceremoniously.
The stage for this is finally set ... and those of us with planetary placements around 17%%deg%% of any sign will find our lives changed radically as well -- for the better, but again, not in ways that are reasonably considered "comfortable."
To briefly outline the structures of this change as best I can again in general terms:
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Aries -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: This drama will play out very directly as I just described. Something you believe, some significant structure of ideas on which you have based a lot of your past thinking is about to be challenged "fatally" by radical new information, new philosophical concepts, and new "rules for living" ... possibly involving legal, religious, or ethical matters.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Taurus -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Your financial structures will be challenged by something that can only be described as a crisis or emergency that involves a sudden ending, a complete termination of something you share in common with partners or "other people," or a "death" of some sort.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Gemini -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Personal responsibilities and possibly involvements with your career and professional life face serious challenges from changes in your areas of partnership, close associates, and legal alliances.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Cancer -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Plans for the future ... possibly something hindered by a long-standing and major psychological problem (possibly related to your relationship with your father or another "authority figure") faces disruption and change from circumstances involving health, lifestyle choices, or significant alterations in the kind of work and service you provide -- including both paid and unpaid "jobs" that are your responsibility to handle.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Leo -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Goals that involve your career direction, personal ideals, friendships, or altruistic visions face challenge from a complete redefinition of your creative style, your relationships with your children and "brain-children," and the risks you are willing to take to put yourself and your talents "in the spotlight of attention." A completely new self-image may be in the making.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Virgo -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Matters involving your career and profession face challenge because of disruptions, destruction, and radical change involving your home, family situation, and private life.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Libra -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Your acquired expertise, your religious and philosophical structures, and the wisdom of experience you've gained through the years face substantial change because of new knowledge you have acquired (or will soon acquire), new and revolutionary ways of thinking, and major adjustments in the way you communicate and share what you believe. This may involve the discovery of information "you didn't want to know."
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Scorpio -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Responsibilities you have for "joint assets," shared income and property, or the management of other people's resources may encounter major problems because of a collapse or substantial reorganization within your own financial structures or other channels of physical support.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Sagittarius -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Major changes in your sense of who you are and the impact you need to have on the world may be rocked by the absence, loss, or need for "new arrangements" in the area of partnerships, associates, allies, and legal connections. Your own changing persona may in fact instigate some of these adjustments. Powerful themes of personal transition ... ending and beginning again ... are playing out in your life at this time.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Capricorn -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Arduous, structured, and possibly "thankless" work that you have established in your life may be altered permanently by an occurrence that may strike "like a bombshell from out of left field." Something out of sight and in the background of your life ... something that may involve elements of treachery and betrayal, when objectively analyzed ... may impact the services you perform, the "jobs" you do, and possibly your physical health.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Aquarius -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Something that involves a long-standing creative ability, your view of your own talents and assets in "drawing attention to yourself," your usual habits in self-promotion, your sense of responsibility to your children and "brain-children," and your reticence when it comes to taking chances will be changed permanently by the arrival of a new, visionary goal of substantial importance. A major redirection regarding your professional targets is in the making.
If your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or an important planetary placement is in Pisces -- especially if near 17%%deg%%: Your home and family structures, things you may have depended on ... or worked to build ... for a long time face substantial changes because of radical new directions and adjustment in your professional life and public status, your identity to the world at large.
More on Saturn in Gemini Opposing Pluto in Sagittarius
From Dec 2001*
Saturn stressed is inflexible, cold, remote, authoritarian, intolerant, and downright mean. In Gemini, this energy becomes the hard-line, entrenched rhetoric of authority that really feels it needs no "consent of the governed" to administer the laws it upholds according to its own standards and its own lights.
It's full of platitudes. It has a portfolio full of "good reasons" and justifications for its behavior ... and its ideas, many of them trite and shallow. It pretends to debate, but actually has no interest in keeping an open mind or listening to reason. Mostly it mouths traditional, conservative, dictatorial sentiments -- because it loves the sound of its own prejudices.
Pluto stressed is into revolution and if bloodshed is the price ... so be it. It sees changes and improvements that it believes need to happen now and damn the cost, damn the consequences. Right now, the very changes and improvements it wants to make are in those ideas and "logical directives" Saturn in Gemini holds so sacred. This is an extremely dictatorial and ruthless combination ... imbued with a self-righteousness that has strong religious overtones -- kind of a "God on our side" mentality.
Pluto stressed is into forcing its philosophy and world view on "society" ... often with a zealotry (not to mention hypocrisy) that is as harsh and coercive as it is offensive. Pluto stressed is willful, violent, calculating, fanatical, and unconcerned with the wishes, rights, or even fates of others.
To my mind there simply is no uglier attitude than corrupted Pluto's posture of, "MY will be done, no matter who it hurts." In its quest to accomplish that, Pluto energy opposed is even willing to self-destruct ... to annihilate itself in order to triumph. (If this isn't the attitude of the suicide bomber / hijacker ... then I don't want to see anything worse!)
Oppositions ... indicate projected energy and relationship problems. When dealing with oppositions, "other people" are the ones causing our problems ... because we often fail to recognize the energy they're expressing back at us that is really our own attitudes disguised and disowned. If you were to ask your antagonists ... and trust they to give you an honest answer, they'd say you're the one with the problem. Because you're playing the same game of reflecting their disowned energy back to them.
Projections are complex and extremely confusing to those participants in the games this pattern depicts. The people onstage are locked into a narrow position, unable or unwilling to see the other side of the conflict as having anything to do with them whatsoever. As they see it, their enemy is the whole problem. Period. It's the dispassionate observers who are best able to see the dynamics of an opposition that consists of two "sides" of a disagreement accusing the other of the very qualities, shortcomings, and "sins" they themselves show in much greater degree.
From Dec 2001*
This sets the stage for a new level of growth and awareness in your religious principles, your ethical foundations, the "rules you live by," and your overall philosophy of life.
But, with the opposition to Saturn still in effect, this work may have to struggle against overly conservative teachings from the past, deeply rooted ideas that have the power of "authority" to back them up, and a deep resistance to change -- because so much information of a fundamental nature is being challenged now.
This may come about through encountering "other people" whose opinions are inflexible, reactionary, and "set in their ways" or people whose radical new notions challenge your sacred cows and perceptions. This is, as I've said, a very forceful, difficult aspect ... which doesn't happen very often. Thank heaven! The last time something similar to yesterday's configuration came around was in September, 1965.
The changes in thinking wrought by the mid 1960's still reverberate in the memories of those of us who lived through that time. (I was in college then. Right in the thick of it. Vietnam. Protests against Vietnam. LBJ. Women's Lib was in its infancy. As the song says ... "Wasn't that a time?")
The world is lining up to go through something similar ... and just as revolutionary. And it may take some time and distance before we can look back and see the changes happening now ... the way they were happening then.
Hang on. This ain't over yet.
An extra piece of information:
The last time this pattern came around ... the one in the mid '60's, the clash was over differing concepts of "ideals" and "duty." Pisces and Virgo's polarity. This played out most obviously in the contrast between the "flower children" mentality versus the "service to your country" crowd.
This time, with the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius involved, the tension falls directly across the kind of "information" one uses to conduct his life and the "religious principles and laws" that structure social ideology. We are, of course, seeing this strife on the Nightly News each evening ... but the changes are affecting us each individually as well. Do bear that in mind.
