We've had an interesting one-two punch occur with the transit of Venus through Pisces this year. On Saturday, it was trine to Jupiter. Today, it's square to Saturn.
At first glance, this combination sounds like it should be a real contradiction in terms. Jupiter ... arguably the most beneficial metaphor in the entire astrological family is in great aspect to Venus, everybody's favorite symbol of love and money -- but Venus, the keeper of passion and treasure, is also square to Saturn ... a Gloomy Gus, if ever there was one, raining on everyone's parade.
A trine, first of all, is an angle between two planets of approximately 120 degrees. The planets situated in this way are considered to be in a benevolent, advantageous relationship to one another, each offering the other outlets for mutually favorable expression - avenues through which to generate and use genuine natural talents and new ideas.
A square, on the other hand, is an angle of approximately 90%%deg%% -- and planets which aspect each other in this way indicate a time of uncomfortable adjustments between two competing areas of life or signify irritations between two conflicting inner impulses or needs.
Sooo, you ask, how is this apt to work itself out in real life?
Ok ... both Venus and Jupiter represent wonderfully creative, generous, caring, bountiful energies -- and both right now are in emotional, sensitive, compassionate, highly embraceable Water Signs: Venus in Pisces, and Jupiter in Cancer.
Venus in Pisces indicates:
- Seeking a "spiritual" quality in love and close relationships
- Enjoying solitude in which to experience and expand one's creative imagination
- Exploring one's mystical nature through selfless, sacrificial acts of charity and generosity -- done as a gesture of love
- Opening one's heart to deep artistic and healing impulses
- Needing seclusion and privacy to fully enjoy the intimacy relationships can provide
Jupiter in Cancer indicates:
- A philosophy that is bighearted, expansive, compassionate, protective, gentle, and nurturing
- A deep emotional concern with the safety and security of self and loved ones -- and a willingness to draw others into the family circle (expanding the components of one's private life)
- A desire for greater comfort, room, and luxury in one's home
- A "maternal" attitude in your rules for living, your personal ethics and values about life
The incorporation of traditional, "old-fashioned," and especially sentimental values into your way of thinking
Combining the two, you can expect an energy that prompts strong feelings of intimacy, connection, spiritual rapport, and closeness between you and family members, friends, loved ones -- especially in relationships where you feel a certain protectiveness and alliance. You want to express all the sentiments you hold toward those you love -- and you want these individuals to know the depth of your devotion!!
This combination can also give rise to some exceptional artistic, creative, mystical, and therapeutic inspirations -- because of the effect it has on your abstract values. Your "vision of life" is both expanded and rendered more gentle, supportive, familial, and loving.
Saturn in Gemini, on the other hand, indicates:
- The systematic organization of ideas
- Disciplined intellectual development
- Focused communications
- The practical application of learning and knowledge
- The desire to have your opinions and wisdom respected as authoritative
Traditionally, squares between Venus and Saturn bring an energy that is aloof, structured, judgmental, self-restrained, and marked by noticeable feelings of "loneliness" and neglect. Saturn's need for dignity, self-control, and order throws cold water all over Venus and her impulses to establish closeness, intimacy, and companionship. (You can almost hear his stern voice scolding: "Will you behave yourself!! Show a little decorum. There's a time and place for things like this. And for crying out loud, not with the lights on!!")
In its present angle to Venus, Saturn may bring some much needed realism to all this misty, free-floating emotion and generosity. You may have to remind yourself you really can't adopt the whole world after all. You need to show a little care and discretion regarding those you choose to love -- and to whom you offer your understanding, help, and selfless service. By itself, this fluid, expressive Venus / Jupiter combination can literally "give away the store" in trying to do good for and share assets with others.
Saturn here, offers the sober reminder that the mortgage still needs to be paid, your ideas of "spiritual connection" need to show a good scoop of common sense to be worthwhile, and "love" needs to have some sensible "rules" if it is to really thrive and survive here in the material world. Sure, you can still see the outlines of this "wet blanket influence." But as usual, Saturn's respect for "what is pragmatic and possible" ... is hard to argue with in the end.

That's the short definition of what she symbolizes, and the minute people hear that, their ears perk up and they want to know more, more, more. Her Greek counterpart was Aphrodite, but that's not the "more" people want to hear. Like all short-and-simple answers to complex questions though, this one is misleading and woefully incomplete.

Saturn Retrograde -- Rebuilding Your Personal Foundations ---> Delays ... get worse -- Saturn is notorious for signifying delays, and because under stress it also symbolizes limitation, restriction, and loss, many followers of astrology consider it their least favorite planet. But I think it gets a bad rap and lots of blame it really doesn't deserve.
