Sun in Pisces

As the Sun moves into Pisces, we've come to the final sign in the Zodiac, the place of endings, closure, summing up and incubation for the start of the next phase of Life's journey -- the start of the Astrological / Cosmic year in Aries. That begins another trip around the spiral of creation, but while the Sun is in Pisces, we have a month to get ready ... and we'll need it.

The Sun is Pisces is the completion of a year's worth of learning and experience, every one different than those that came before. The new cycle begins with the Spring Equinox as the Sun moves into Aries. That's always a time of action and new initiatives, but before that, we need some time to prepare. Ideally, Pisces is a time of rest, composure, recuperation and healing, a time of quiet contemplation.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrograde has a reputation. Even people who aren't into Astrology know the term. And while it's around, they become "believers." Probably because it's useful. It explains, excuses, rationalizes why things go wrong. They can shift responsibility for why the car broke down, why they missed the appointment, why the email went wandering. "It's not my fault!! Mercury is retrograde!!

Well, ok. I guess some knowledge is better than nothing. But today, let's take it a bit further. Instead of blaming Mercury for everything that goes wrong, can we can give him credit instead? Mercury is a messenger, after all, and even a mess can still hold a message. You may have to clean it off and translate it ... but it's there, nevertheless.

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces

As if Mercury in Pisces weren't involuted and weird enough already, it turned retrograde last night. Can you stand it? Time to rethink, reconsider, reorganize, adjust and revise the things Mercury in Pisces brings up for attention. It's time to understand this part of life differently. It's quite a task.

Mercury is the symbol of your intellect, your conscious mind. It organizes the way you understand the world, how you form your beliefs and perceptions, how you explain "what's going on" to yourself so you can make sense of it all. It's rational, logical and objective. It's what passes for common sense ... at least as you define it. It describes how you come up with ideas and how you use information.

Mars in Capricorn

Astrologers say Mars is exalted in Capricorn -- meaning Capricorn is a sign where Mars expresses himself easily. Mars rules Aries, of course, but Capricorn is like his home-away-from-home ... or maybe the home of his bestie. Anyway, he's comfortable there, and has booked a stay for six weeks. Capricorn is ambitious; Mars is pure physical energy. It sounds like a match made in heaven.

In Capricorn, Mars settles in to work hard, get stuff done and leave behind an impressive number of finished projects when he goes. He's not afraid of demanding jobs or long hours, so he'll tackle really big tasks. Mars in Capricorn is super-organized. He sets sensible priorities. He makes good use of his resources. He focuses on results.

Mars in Capricorn

Mars = action, physical energy, the ability to work hard, get what you want, get what you need. It's deeply connected to your survival instinct, because without its drive and assets ... you're literally "going nowhere" ... at which point, life's challenges become insurmountable. Capricorn = building long-term, impressive results through patient, steady, relentless effort. You see where this is going.

Mars in Capricorn is motivated by concerns for safety and security. Despite its often onerous responsibilities and notoriously slow progress and humorless attitude, your Inner Self of Capricorn is devoted to making sure you survive. He has serious business to tend to, so, yes, he's a pretty serious guy. But there's lots more to him than just scratching for existence. Capricorn is pretty far evolved in the Zodiac.

The Full Moon in Leo

The Leo / Aquarius polarity presents a pair of Zodiac signs that seem to conflict -- or at least, compete with one another. Each is valid and powerful. Each rules a life area and set of concerns vital to a complete and satisfying life. Up close, we find possible areas of common ground between them, but their personal traits and modus operandi don't match well.

It's not the only such pair as the structuralists among us set about dividing the Zodiac to better understand and explain it. There are five others. Each month, as the Full Moon arrives, one of these contentious pairs is highlighted and we humans are invited to feel the tension, acknowledge its concerns ... and then somehow resolve its problems, at least temporarily. After all, temporary is all that's possible.

The Full Moon

This topic is actually relevant to this Full Moon discussion. But given the word limit here (These entries are 300 words tops come hell or high water.) you may have to stretch some to see it.

*

I'm not too proud to admit this; I've said it before. Sometimes my own lack of insight (or whatever) amazes me. I don't say this lightly, because when the A-ha moments hit, they are enlightening, delightful, creative, intriguing and embarrassing. I see lots of new possibilities ... and old concepts in new ways.

The Orientals talk about "seeing with new eyes" and having a "mind like water." Concepts are fresh and rewarding. Prejudices and "old information" don't get in the way. Call them epiphanies. But the fact it took me so long is also embarrassing. I've improved through the years (and it's about time!!) ... but still ....

The Full Moon

Astrology is essentially a symbolic language -- a language in code, in shorthand. As with any puzzle if you have the key to the code, you can decipher the message. But a lot depends on the practitioner's skill and depth of understanding. That, of course, can vary all over the place.

In deciphering any Full Moon situation, you're looking at a basic disagreement in values. It's an argument, if you will, between two of your Inner Selves. Each month, each Full Moon, the argument is about a different subject ... but the two contentious Inner Selves are the same.

The Full Moon

For those striving to live consciously and stay in touch with Life's natural rhythms, Moon phases and the Moon's shifting moods and interests as it circles the Zodiac every month bring some of the most intriguing issues to ponder.

Each month the Sun changes signs, and over the year follows a predictable path from Aries through Pisces ... back to Aries. No matter what "society" says about January 1, that's the start of the Astrological year. So, every month the Sun lays down a canvas of different interests and concerns ... and the Moon spends the rest of the month painting in various details. Every 2 1/2 days the picture changes.

Mercury in Pisces

Any planet in Pisces -- any planet in a Water Sign, for that matter -- has exceptional intuition, which can be quite an asset if it's recognized and used properly. The difference is ... the channel through which it arrives, and how it's ultimately used -- the way the native applies it. (A Pisces Mercury, for example, gets and uses his information differently than a Pisces Saturn. They have different jobs to perform.)

A planet's presence in Pisces, the Zodiac's final sign, also suggests a high degree of maturity and evolution -- on whatever level the soul is traveling. Remember there's always another level, always more to learn and room to grow -- and new discoveries to make. But the extra dimensions of intuition (courtesy of Pisces) mean that planet will operate differently than when it's placed (or transiting) in the other signs.
