Jupiter Retrograde

You've probably heard about Mercury Retrograde. Many people have. Many even have a fairly good general idea about what it means: misunderstandings, poor communication, technological screw-ups, trouble traveling, missed appointments, traffic jams. Well, all the planets in your horoscope (that's everything except the Sun and the Moon) have a retrograde cycle as part of their travels.

When a planet (any planet) goes through a retrograde cycle, the things it rules come up for review, revision & restructuring. You start to get a feeling you need to reorganize the part of your life where it's traveling -- & either figure out what you've got ... or you decide to clean it up so it's not so cluttered & you can work with these interests easily, more intelligently -- & make decisions you can count on in the future.

So, since this little essay is about Jupiter, what does Jupiter rule in a horoscope? Well, Jupiter rules your philosophical foundations among other things. This covers a lot of territory. It takes in the conventional wisdom passed on through your culture as well as black-letter law ... basically "the rules you live by."

It also includes your fields of special academic interest -- topics where you "know a lot of stuff" & are considered something of an expert. This can be knowledge you've acquired through life experience but especially things you've learned through formal study, special training or educating yourself with advanced degrees. It can also be self-directed study -- things you know from being an avid reader on a topic.

Jupiter is about "knowing enough to teach others" -- but also being flexible enough to listen & learn -- willing to learn more yourself. At a certain point, there's usually some of each as you switch back & forth between roles.
