Mars Rx
It's not news. Mars is Retrograde until November 13. It's been in its own shadow since July 25, and will not emerge until January 2. Maybe that bodes well (a little bit) for 2021 being a better year than 2020. It would almost have to be, but we've learned these are times with no guarantees.
Mars retrogrades about every 2 years -- well, every 26 months actually. It stays retrograde for about 2 -- 2 1/2 months ... between 60 and 80 days. It will cover somewhere between 10 and 20 degrees in his backward trek. Only Venus retrogrades are less common.
Just as Mercury retrogrades require you to rethink the way you communicate, get around physically & understand life, Mars retrograde asks you to redo work, reconsider action & reform how you assert yourself. Mars is the principle of physical energy. He is the capacity to do work, make things happen, get things done and change life to better suit you because of what you've accomplished.

Mars Retrograde
Well, Mars is transiting Aries, the sign he rules, & like any Lord of the Manor on his home ground, Mars is real comfortable here. There is no place like home -- even for the Zodiac's valiant Warrior. He only gets to spend six weeks here every two years normally, but these are not normal times, & Mars is in no mood to behave normally either. There's trouble brewing & no rest for anyone anywhere.
Never one to back down from a righteous engagement, Mars turned retrograde a month at -- in at 28° Aries, when he practically had one foot out the door again, & has backed up enough now to not only have the adversary in sight, but in his sights as well. There are three of them -- Jupiter, Saturn & Pluto, in authoritative, power-hungry Capricorn -- which doesn't sound like a fair fight -- & it may not be. We'll see.
These four have some issues to iron out between them & some world-class negotiating to do. Hopefully it stays at the table-talk level & things get talked out & worked through to a better resolution, but don't count on an absence of fireworks before we're done. Mars Rx may be less aggressive outwardly than usual, but he's no push-over. Nor is he a coward, & right now he has an agenda he's primed to push -- full on.
His first meeting, with Saturn -- also in his own home sign of Capricorn ... so we have some real ego issues going on with these two rulers, will deal with frustration over limits & restrictions. Then, with Pluto, Mars will take up concerns about power struggles & excessive cruelty. Then, meeting Jupiter, Mars may go over the edge in what he's willing to do to win.

Red is a Mars / Aries color
and both are definitely fire element

Mars Retrograde
When planets prepare to retrograde, the way Mars is doing now, they go through what are known as "shadow phases" -- one before the planet turns retrograde, & one after. The first shadow phase begins when the planet passes the degree of the sign to which it will retreat while retrograde. The second shadow phase ends when the planet, now direct, passes the degree of the sign at which it began its retrograde cycle.
During the first shadow phase, you may start to feel uneasy, uncertain & mildly troubled about the things the (about to retrograde) planet rules. For Mercury this is communication -- & may prompt questions. How are you coming across? Are you 100% behind your stated intentions? Are your beliefs & information completely reliable & accurate? Does your perspective need some examination -- & maybe adjustment?

Mars Retrograde
Mars has turned retrograde in Aries, just in time for the 9/11 anniversary this year. How appropriate. You may recognize the term Mercury retrograde -- & have some idea what it means. Messy communications & misunderstandings, botched travel plans, missed appointments, trouble with machinery & electronics, information changes or goes missing. All in all, it's real inconvenient. People cringe when it shows up.
All planets have a retrograde cycle, but they're less frequent & in some ways less in your face than Mercury. Of the elements in the normal horoscope, only the Sun and Moon never retrograde -- which explains some of their special status in Astrology, but also, they're not planets. The Sun is a star -- the center of our Solar System, & the Moon is a satellite of earth.
But all the other cosmic citizens Astrologers work with are planets, & as I mentioned, each has a retrograde phase. This time it's Mars' turn, and obediently he turned retrograde in Aries at 28°. It may be the last compliant gesture you see from him for a while. He will be retrograde until November 13 & back up to 15° -- virtually the last half of the sign.
Mars has been traveling in his own shadow since July 25. By this, I mean, he's been in the "retrograde zone." That day, he passed the degree to which he will return now that he's retrograde, so he's essentially covering ground he will pass through again. Three times, actually. Once direct, again while retrograde and then direct again.
And the shadow also extends on the other side, once he goes direct -- until he passes the degree at which he began his retrograde cycle -- this time moving forward. Learn more about
