The Sun and the Moon
Considered together, the Sun & Moon in your horoscope reveal a more dimensional portrait of your personality than either provides alone. Understanding how your Sun energy & Moon energy are integrated in your character is one of the first steps to interpreting your horoscope, one of the first steps to understanding yourself.
The wisdom contained in the Sun / Moon information is considerable, but it's certainly not the whole picture. There are eight more planets, twelve houses & a whole individual assortment of aspects to interpret. That's a lot to take in, a lot to talk about. That's also why spending an hour to "get your chart done" only begins to scratch the surface of your identity as a spiritual being. Think about that. Really think about it.

The Sun and the Moon
In Astrology, the Sun and the Moon are a study in contrasts. They can be seen as mirror-images, on the one hand -- & on the other, they complete each other, making a greater, more dimensional picture of what a horoscope is describing. To have the information from one is a key element in understanding the character of the person or the nature of the event a horoscope contains.
To have both, however, gives genuine value. In fact, if the Moon Sign were easier to find (instead of needing multiple books or a software program), its importance would be as publicized & supported as Sun Sign information is in the mainstream conversations about Astrology.

The Sun & the Moon
Moon energy and Sun energy are two of the most consistently influential forces in anyone's horoscope. Different planetary energies come and go. Different forces come into play, & almost always fade away again in time. But your Sun and Moon placements, by sign, house and angles, two powerful statements of who you are, how you were designed & how you are able to express these potentials.
This is true for anyone, in any horoscope -- even those cast for events instead of people. Moon energy, especially in how it relates to Sun energy, deals with feelings, emotions, behavior, history & consciousness. Each has its own undeniable value, its own stand-alone personality. Together, working as a team, they are a powerhouse of spiritual & creative promise.
To know how these operate for you, how they perform in your life & what they represent from their locations in your horoscope is to know yourself better -- far better than those who choose to dismiss this knowledge with a shrug ... or a scoff. Yes, they can come by this knowledge in other ways, but this is one of the best, one of the easiest. But Life itself is always about choices. Some we regret.
The Sun represents your Essential Self. It's your identity, your ego, your consciousness & your self-image. It is a profound statement of who you are -- and who you are becoming. Its information describes your spiritual destiny -- how you were designed & built, where you are going & how you're most able to get there. All in all, that's pretty impressive.
The Moon represents your Inner Emotional Self. It presides over your private landscape of feelings, emotions, history & memories. It holds information about family & heritage. It's who you are now -- & who you've been.

Sun & Moon
One thing that has impressed me as I've learned metaphysics & Astrology is how concerned the Universe is with the concept of balance. For each positive / yang / masculine / outwardly expressing element, there will be a counter-weight, represented by a responsive / yin / feminine inwardly expressing element. Both are absolutely essential to evolution & the development of Life as we know it.
There is (I believe) a modest bias toward the positive / yang / masculine side, enough to keep the momentum of "progress" going, but there is certainly tremendous respect paid to the logic of withdrawing / waiting / pulling back / consolidating / & conserving. This is mostly the function of negative / yin / feminine energy -- the behaviors that collect & hold on to what you've harvested & gained.

The Sun and The Moon
Power placement & hindrances
In Natal Astrology -- in your horoscope -- the Moon is considered the second most important celestial element, subordinate only to the Sun in describing your personality. In actual practice, however, the Moon may actually be the major player in your Natal Chart -- and in defining your character. It depends on how the Sun is placed -- and aspected, compared to the same for the Moon.
The Sun starts off as the main element to consider in interpreting your horoscope. If the Sun is is Leo or Aries -- it gains extra power ... or as Astrologers say ... it gains "dignity." The Sun placed in the 5th or 1st of the horoscope gains "accidental dignity" -- and moves up a notch in importance, even beyond its initial head-start.

Sun & Moon
The Sun in your horoscope represents your Essential Self, the inner part of your character that defines your personality and ego. It is your basic identity to the world as your life unfolds. Arguably it also describes your spiritual purpose ... your sense of who you are and who you are meant to become. It is your present self reaching into the future as you develop your potential and talents.
The Moon in your horoscope represents your Emotional Self, the inner part of your character composed of feelings, intuition and instincts. This is the "inner core" of your character, the person you know yourself to be "on the inside." You know this part of you very well and identify strongly with its way of working with life. It is your past self reaching back into the past, working from history and memories.

The Sun and Moon
In Astrology, the Sun and the Moon are the two non-planet elements in the traditional horoscope. The Sun is a star, the center of our Solar System and the Moon is a satellite of Earth, it's only natural one. That alone sets the Sun and the Moon as different and distinct, special from the rest. The planets in your horoscope represent various Inner Selves, but the Sun and Moon are exceptional.
As in the physical universe, the Sun and Moon in Astrology are reflections of each other. They have both similarities and important differences. Astrologers designate the Sun and the Moon as "the luminaries" in the horoscope. That word essentially means "light-givers." However, in reality, the Sun is the only one of the two that actually produces light. Moonlight is reflected light from the Sun.
