Mercury in Aries Square
Pluto in Capricorn Opposing Jupiter in Libra
Through the beginning of April
Mercury in Aries has formed the departing square with
Pluto in Capricorn and the opposition with Jupiter in Libra.
These aspects formed at 19 / 20°.
See below for glyph meanings.
The theme of this pattern is
Uneasy, apprehensive feelings and attitudes
... and over-the-top reactions to stress.
We've had two days of extremely windy weather in our part of the world. The whole internet was down for a while yesterday on our side of the state. Even the grocery stores had to close for several hours because their computers were offline. Tall towers holding microwave dishes and satellite equipment don't fare well in 60 MPH winds ... apparently. It was a local lesson in how dependent we've become on fancy communications stuff working perfectly ... constantly. Or not.
Anyway, it's added to a paranoid feeling of not just missing out ... but being left behind and forgotten completely -- in the dark. (I've also had to face the evidence that I've surpassed The Weasel ... um, Our Beloved Webmaster ... in how instantly edgy and cross I get when the Internet becomes a stone wall instead of a bullet train. The Wolfman himself never changed so fast! I used to make fun of people like that.)
In my defense, all mental energy right now is irritable and touchy, roiled by a lot of mixed messages and way too much information. It's looking hard for something solid to believe in ... and to regain footing on stable ground. We've all been through a lot of craziness lately. You have wonder ... when will it end? The answer is ... not yet, but soon ... and gradually ... and you'll have to do a lot of the work yourself. Don't look to the news for much comfort. Papers and media outlets sell products and services when people are worried. It's their job to keep you that way.
But, this agitation is unsustainable. You won't stand for it ... and nobody can afford it. You'll find your own safe space when Mercury finds its trine with Saturn, steps briefly into Taurus, and retrogrades back to that comfortable connection with Saturn again. That comes during all of April and most of May. It starts almost immediately. (March 29 -- 12:16 PM -- MT. Mercury's first of three trines with Saturn.) You can practically hold your breath 'til then ... but don't. It'll only add more problems.
Right now, though, we're dealing with the crisis -- and the crazy. But turbulence creates change .. and that's where the magic lives. Let's talk about what's happening ... and how it, too (even this) is a stepping-stone on the path to improvement.

What Does Mercury Represent in Your Natal Chart? -- What is it ... and why is it important? ---> In mythology, Mercury was the winged messenger of the Gods. -- Your mind -- at work and play -- In Astrology, Mercury represents your conscious, rational mind. It tells a lot about your intellectual self; your ability to study, learn, analyze, communicate and work with information.
Mercury in General -- Your Inner Selves of Learning and Work ---> Learning stuff, using your mind and putting it to work -- Like Venus, your Mercury energy describes two inner selves. One manages your mind and all its talents; the other is in charge of the work you do ... the ways you use your skills and abilities to help others and build the kind of life your want for yourself. Again, as with Venus, these are usually reduced to the basic categories of "mind" and "work," but they also include whole subdivisions of behavior and talents.
Mercury and the Miracle of the Mind -- Astrology's Search for Intelligent Life ---> As an Astrologer I see both the mundaneness of common knowledge -- handling the basic facts of awareness and everyday rituals -- and a touch of miracles in Mercury.
Mercury Retrograde -- Rethinking Your Present Direction ---> In the territory of the mind -- When Mercury is retrograde (Mercury Rx -- in shorthand), it is a time of rethinking, refocusing and re-communicating. In Astrology, Mercury represents your intellect; your mental focus; your mind and how you use its assets.
What Does Jupiter Represent in Your Natal Chart? -- What is it ... and why is it important? ---> Jupiter rules Sagittarius, the last sign of autumn -- November 22 to December 21. -- Opening up your world -- Jupiter, colorful and immense, dwarfs the Earth by comparison. It is named for the mythological King of the ancient Roman Gods. (The Greeks called him Zeus.)
Jupiter Retrograde -- Expanding Your Latest Creation ---> Jupiter's interests -- Jupiter represents your philosophical beliefs and ethical principles. It describes your ability to share authoritative knowledge ... the wisdom you've gained both through academic study and through the simple experience of living. These are the lessons you teach through the example of your own life by the ideas that guide your choices and the actions you take as a result.
Pluto Retrograde -- Rebuilding in the Wake of Revolution ---> Pluto -- death and resurrection -- Pluto. If you know anything at all about the symbolism of this strange, erratic, controversial planet (which some scientists don't consider a planet at all, and other scientists consider part of a double planet set along with its own Moon, Charon, with whom it shares an atmosphere), you know it represents situations and experiences that deserve more than passing respect.
Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn -- Originally written April 2009 ---> The long relentless break-down -- Transiting Pluto -- both direct and retrograde -- depicts the loooooong-term process of tearing down and improving things that are worn out, exhausted, inappropriate, obsolete, ineffective and falling into ruin.
Pluto -- The Symbol of Irresistible Change ---> When things change ... drastically -- Pluto. If the idea of this planet and all its metaphorical meanings, all the things it symbolizes out in the real world, don't cause the hair to ripple on the back of your neck and an inward shudder to pass through the core of your body like a sudden gust of frigid wind, well, then you don't know it like I do.
Pluto: Ruler of Scorpio -- Symbol of Your Transformative, Regenerative Self ---> Pluto, with its bizarre, irregular orbit, is the last of the discovered planets in this Solar System which the basic metaphorical language of astrology contains. Occasionally it is the outermost of the known planets, although during part of its journey around the Sun it moves inside the orbit of Neptune.
Pluto in Capricorn -- The Lord of Destruction and Rebirth -- in the sign of Government and Corporate Industry ---> With Pluto in Capricorn, you are working with an energy that is -- Fueled by a profound desire to make sweeping changes and improvements -- now tackling long-term projects that involve reworking your life's fundamental structures -- Determined to demolish what is exhausted, inappropriate, useless, obsolete or in disrepair in life areas where you already feel constantly vulnerable and insecure -- and replace these broken investments with new arrangements that will boost your self-esteem and status, provide far more protection and future security.
