From May 2002*
As of early yesterday morning, Mars has moved into Cancer where it will remain for the next six weeks ... until July 13. When Mars is in Cancer, people focus on actions and favor ambitions that are strongly colored by emotional considerations, and their concern for issues involving security and protection becomes both passionate and touchy.
Despite this, they use prefer actions that are indirect, unobtrusive, quiet, and far more passive than open. Responses to this energy ... and its interests ... may be based largely on intuitive feelings -- and take place quietly, but in ways designed to protect home, family, and other personal affairs. They may carry a definite flavor of confidentiality ... or "keeping matters within the family circle."
People may, therefore, be very focused on activities that involve their private lives, family members, home circumstances, emotional roots, and be concerned with tradition, history, and experiences of "the past." This energy is known for being clannish, sentimental, family oriented, and nostalgic. There is also a marked emphasis on safety, nurturing, and emotional connection with loved ones.
Action based on moods and emotions is prominent. This energy is very supportive of behavior that is sensitive, compassionate, and caring. There is further accent on being tender, responsive, and in touch with your feelings and psychological concerns. This is a very "mothering" energy, and people will both feel and show this kind of attitude and attachment.
Under stress, behavior and responses become moody, emotionally unbalanced, resentful, complaining, blaming, fearful, and compulsive. When it comes to going after what they want, people can be obsessive, anxious, paranoid, overwrought, and irritable. In extreme cases, they are unstable to the point of hysteria.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Aries: This energy is located smack in the middle of your involvement with family members, household issues, actions required to protect or maintain your physical home, and issues relating to your psychological welfare and security needs.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Taurus: This energy colors your thoughts, intellectual interests, things you may want to study, learn about, consult with someone over, or discuss with people who are either part of your inner world or who may be able to help with the concerns you have on your mind now.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Gemini: This energy colors the management of your financial life, and influences the ways you deal with expenses, purchases, the kinds of possessions you may want to acquire, and the way you work to gain the income and financial support you need. It speaks specifically about the motives behind your actions.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Cancer: This energy activates a very essential part of your character ... and reinforces your willingness to take action to "solidify and protect" the things dearest to your heart. You may be uncharacteristically forceful or belligerent in putting these things in order to your satisfaction.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Leo: This energy is at work in the background of your life, where it may not be at all obvious to anyone except you and members of your immediate household. It energizes plans you may have for the immediate future that are still in the development stage ... and that won't be ready for at least another six weeks or more. It, too, speaks directly of the motives behind these plans.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Virgo: This energy is at work solidifying gains from your professional life and career involvements ... showing you ways to build on these victories for more success in the future. It is also revitalizing your social life and connection to friends and professional colleagues -- who may be able to help you formulate those greater dreams that are emerging now.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Libra: This energy is kicking up sand in your area of public status, professional involvements, and career matters, either gaining you the public reputation, honor, and respect you have earned -- or causing enough competition and friction between you and others that you may make substantial changes because of experiences in the next 6 - 8 weeks.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Scorpio: This energy is stimulating your interests in higher learning, greater knowledge, philosophical foundations, and ethical considerations. You are looking to implement new rules for living ... and may be interested also in sharing what you have learned or what you believe with uncharacteristic frankness and force.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Sagittarius: Issues of joint property, assets you control in conjunction with partners, projects that include the talents and resources of associates, or some fundamental "creative effort" to which you are dedicating yourself -- possibly something that is being reworked or launched as the result of a crisis or emergency -- are highlighted. Again, this energy speaks of the motivating concerns behind your actions. This energy also increases the likelihood of involvement with taxes, insurance matters, inheritances, investment dividends, legacies, and the contributions "other people" make to the concerns of your life.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Capricorn: You may have to devote exceptional energy to some theme involving your marriage, partnerships, the concerns of close associates, your "public contacts," or the fuss-and-feathers other people kick up in your life. This period energizes both passions and the potential for conflicts with the intimate partners in your life. It does add a little zest and kick to the normal routines.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Aquarius: Work is an area of special focus now. This includes both the job you do for money and all the little chores, errands, tasks, services, and responsibilities you perform ... mostly for the benefit of others ... that constitute "your job(s)." The attitudes I've described are now among your conscious motives for doing a good and thorough job at whatever it is you're accomplishing.
If your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant is in Pisces: You will be concentrating on activities involving your children (or brain-children), your creative talents, the things you do to show off, draw attention, or "put yourself in the spotlight." You may be especially romantic now ... or feel like kicking back and enjoying life for a while in leisure and avocational pursuits. You may also be unusually willing to take risks ... and nothing is chancier, when you think about it, than courtship, love interests, and matters of the heart.
