From Jun 2002*
The Sun went into Cancer early yesterday morning, marking the Summer Solstice -- the start of summer and the longest day of the year. When the Sun is in Cancer, people use their personal energy more sensitively, gently, protectively.
They value behaviors and methods that are cautious, intuitive, instinctive, sentimental, sympathetic, and traditional. There is extra emphasis on security issues, emotional connections, family matters, domestic circumstances, and the conduct of their private lives.
They may also be concerned with their inner feelings, their ability to empathize with others, and with memories or other situations that linger from their personal past.
Moments of nostalgia may be more frequent for the next month ... and activities and interests involving your home, your family circle, and the condition of your physical dwelling take priority. You may also find your intuition ... and ability to empathize ... is keener.
But on the other hand, you will be more sensitive -- meaning more easily bruised emotionally, too. Like all energy, sensitivity is a two way street -- and you can't be more sensitive to others without being more sensitive yourself, in ways that aren't always comfortable or welcome.
When the Sun in Cancer is stressed, people are unusually vulnerable, resentful, dependent, fearful, moody, compulsive, habit-bound, obsessive, overwrought, depressed, self-pitying, and fretful.
In addition, you may find the following areas of your life command additional attention for the next several weeks.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Aries: This energy is very direct and undisguised. Your attention turns to family issues, your psychological needs, security matters, the conditions found in your physical home, and matters held over from the past.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Taurus: Your ability to acquire and use knowledge is highlighted. You may be unusually curious, be more apt to seek information, more likely to share what you know with others, and will emphasize your intellectual skills and interests.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Gemini: Money matters take center stage. Issues of income, spending habits, the acquisition of possessions, and your use of physical resources are highlighted.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Cancer: Your personal presentation comes to the forefront of your attention. You are active in presenting yourself as someone sensitive, compassionate, family oriented, and "motherly."
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Leo: Your skills at planning and strategy are accented now. It may be relatively quiet on the surface of your life -- almost a period of dormancy or recuperation before the launch of a major new round of adventure and experience. This is a quiet time of healing and preparation for "something big" that will start unfolding soon.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Virgo: Your social life is highlighted ... as well as your professional network and the "payoff" from career achievements from the last 9 - 12 months of effort. You are busy formulating new long-term goals ... and integrating new opportunities and unexpected changes into your overall game plan for the coming months.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Libra: Your authority and expertise are more readily recognized -- and your public life is central to your interests now. Matters of professional achievement and career direction may be up for attention and review.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Scorpio: Issues of higher learning, advanced education, the expansion of your intellectual and cultural horizons are emphasized now. You are broadening your scope of influence and your public ambitions and applying new knowledge to a more liberal and liberated philosophy of life.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Sagittarius: Change is underway in your life ... perhaps substantial change. You may be dealing with conditions of turmoil, upset, crisis, or emergency -- as old conditions end and new ones come into being. It's also a time when the assets, resources, talents, money, skills, and possessions of "other people" may be unusually important to your future plans.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Capricorn: Matters of partnership are highlighted now. Your participation in alliances and teamwork is dominant ... and your need to consider other people, their agendas, and their points of view is unusually important. Just tending to your own self-interests won't cut the mustard any more.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Aquarius: Work is central to your concerns this month -- including both the job you do for money and the chores, favors, errands, tasks, and mundane responsibilities you deal with daily in order to serve the interests of others and make their lives easier. It's not glamorous ... but it is necessary, and right now, it's your turn to pay attention to these routine pieces of life. Health issues may also be noticeable as part of an overall review of your lifestyle and usual habits.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant is in Pisces: Leisure and creativity are on the agenda for some extra attention. Artistic projects, hobbies, avocational pursuits, efforts undertaken strictly for fun ... or finding ways to show off your abilities and really put yourself in the spotlight are on your mind. Dealing with children -- or 'brain-children" -- is part of this month's business ... and don't forget time for romance. That's highlighted, too.
