Taurus is an Earth Sign
The Earth Signs of the Zodiac are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. There is one Earth Sign for each of the Qualities -- Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. Capricorn is Cardinal Earth. Taurus is Fixed Earth, and Virgo is Mutable Earth. Together, these three elements form the components in the pattern of the Grand Earth Trine.
Earth is the element associated with common sense, groundedness, practicality, and a natural talent for dealing with the physical business of life. The ambitions of the Earth signs are different from the "personality based" aims of the Fire signs. Earth signs want possessions, material assets, physical resources, money, and status based on personal achievements and contributions -- not just "personality" alone.
Earth Signs are considered feminine, which when dealing with metaphysical definitions means they are responsive, reactive, and sustaining ... more passive than active. They work through tactics and strategies that are far more restrained, protective, understated, and subtle than the explicitly demonstrative and extroverted masculine signs. They prefer to attract what they want and need ... rather than going out and scrapping and competing for it.
The Earthiest of the Earth Signs
Taurus: is the Great Sustainer ... the personality who knows how to use material goods and generate the money needed to sustain ongoing projects, ventures, and create a fine, enjoyable living standard.
He likes to keep things on an even keel, make plans and stick to them, let his investments grow, accumulate, appreciate, pay dividends, etc., with a minimum amount of effort from him. He is extremely fond of "conserving energy" and other resources -- and the ones he most likes to save, are his own.
He therefore has a reputation for being lazy, slow-moving, hard to motivate and stingy in his spending habits -- except possibly where his own comfort and convenience are concerned.
Taurus is a Fixed Sign
The Fixed Signs of the Zodiac are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. There is one Fixed Sign for each of the Elements -- Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Leo is Fixed Fire. Scorpio is Fixed Water. Aquarius is Fixed Air and Taurus is Fixed Earth. There are two masculine Fixed signs and two feminine Fixed signs.
These form two pairs of oppositions in the Zodiac (Taurus and Scorpio oppose one another; Leo and Aquarius oppose one another.) ... and each element in these oppositions squares the elements of the other. These four signs together form the pattern of the Fixed Grand Cross in which each element has an agenda, a perspective on life and a set of values that antagonizes the other three.
Fixed signs are replete with inner reserves, formidable in their determination to "stay the course" they have set for themselves, and resolute in their ability to undergo considerable hardship (and even physical damage) rather than "give in" to an adversary or an adversarial situation. Fixed signs, when faced with conflict or distress, become the "immoveable object" of song and legend.
Fixed ... as in stubborn
Fixed signs are masters of stability, perseverance, and organization. They are motivated by principles and can be every bit as entangled in the concept of "a cause" as the Cardinal signs. But they definitely want a more measured and serene pace to the life they lead.
They aren't a bit fond of high-pressure situations or people who push too hard. They prefer other tactics to get what they want that can be just as effective ... and just as infuriating.
Taurus: the Fixed Earth Sign
Taurus is Fixed Earth. His personality emphasizes practical accomplishment, the manipulation or acquisition of tangible property, the effective use of energy and other resources, making and nurturing investments, enjoying the physical side of life, and having something "real" to show for his efforts.
He likes to keep things on an even keel, make plans and stick to them, let his investments grow, accumulate, appreciate, pay dividends, etc., with a minimum amount of effort from him. He relies on his resourcefulness, determination, and willingness to simply outlast his opposition when life pressures him to change.
Taurus is notorious for his stubborn refusal to budge in response to outside "heat." Just that his character is Fixed Earth ... lets you see why!
