Support comes in many forms
According to dime-store astrology ... the kind most people know from the little booklets they buy on newstands ... Venus in Astrology rules the two alluring topics of money and love. Like Mercury, Venus rules two Zodiac signs -- Taurus and Libra, and there is, indeed, a connection here between Venus ... money ... and love.
Taurus deals with things of value ... especially things of material and financial value. Money certainly falls in that category. Libra rules close relationships, important alliances and partnerships -- like marriage. Love should certainly be part of that arrangement. So, yes, there's some basis for Venus and her intriguing public reputation.
But it's also so much more
But like any grand concept reduced down to one or two words, this broad definition misses a lot about the complexity and range of Venus energy. When you understand its real scope, Venus energy is about so much more than bank accounts and bed partners. And yet she also combines those two special life areas in ways both noble and every bit as conniving as any mix of legal contracts, money matters and love connections sounds, even on the surface.
But "love and money" is easy to remember. So hold onto that idea while we talk about the "much more" ruled by Venus ... and we'll build a more complete picture of what this really means. A more complete but simple definition is that Venus rules pleasure and things of value ... the things you enjoy and the things you deem important.
You and your partners
All are part of what you'd call your support systems ... your financial and material support channels, like money, property, income, possessions and the attitudes you have toward them, and your social support network, which includes other people who are close enough to you to be called your "other half."
This can include your spouse, your best friends, your close business associates and partners, your legal allies and representatives ... and sometimes "the general public" if you have a life or career that depends on mass support and response to keep you going. Celebrities, artists, writers, musicians, actors and politicians certainly fit that description.
Sharing things of value
You exchange things of value with these people, including money and gifts of love. Together you form an alliance that is greater than the sum of its parts ... and this creation also has value to everyone involved. There is usually some mingling of money and property with these people because of your shared relationship.
And, there is an obvious but often overlooked (and resolutely minimized) factor in these two interests. The manipulation of allegiance / loyalty / feelings / love / possessions and property / and money between members of this network exerts pressure and control which can both bind the alliance more tightly, for better or worse ... and turn extremely dangerous if and when things go terribly wrong.

Mercury in General -- Your Inner Selves of Learning and Work ---> Learning stuff, using your mind and putting it to work -- Like Venus, your Mercury energy describes two inner selves. One manages your mind and all its talents; the other is in charge of the work you do ... the ways you use your skills and abilities to help others and build the kind of life your want for yourself. Again, as with Venus, these are usually reduced to the basic categories of "mind" and "work," but they also include whole subdivisions of behavior and talents.
